editOlder vurde, from Old Norse virða, from Proto-Germanic *wirþijaną (“to value”). Derived from the adjective *werþaz (“worth”). The modern Danish form is extended with the suffix -ere after Middle Low German werdēren, a derivation from the same adjective.
