The park is listed as a [[UNESCO]] [[World Heritage Site]] since 1983. In 1992, it was added to the list of [[List of World Heritage Sites in danger|world heritage sites in danger]] due to illegal [[poaching]], extensive [[grazing]], unplanned road construction and encroachment of the park's perimeter. It was removed from the list of endangered sites in 2005.

It offer a vast variety of micro climates, from 15,000 ft. snow covered tops to 2,000 ft. Amazonian rainforests.

Here you can see endagered species like the Condor, (the largest bird in the world) and the picaflor Hummingbird, (the smallest one), Jaguar, Danta and the mythological eyeglassed-Bear (osos de anteojos, Tremarctos ornatus).
