Arshavin returned to Arsenal for the start of the 2012–13 season. On 29th May 2013, Arshavin agreed a deal with Reading FC owner Anton Zingarevich, to spend the 2013/14 league season playing for Reading, after being persuaded by close friend and fellow player Pavel Pobregnyak. Although in The Championship, Arshavin said he felt they would make an instant Premiership return and playing in the second tier of English football would not be an issue
