I've been bothered by the font selection for [[IAST]] [[Sanskrit]] transliteration, chosen by [[Template:IAST]]. It looks like it isn't defaulting to something that is totally unreadable and hideous anymore, but the selection of "Free Serif" as a top choice is troubling. I have been working with web design that involves Sanskrit transliteration, and I spent a fair amount of time digging through fonts and CSS settings, finding exactly which fonts can support it, and will render well on [[Microsoft Windows|Windows]] (and [[Mac OS X]] and [[Linux]] too, for that matter). Now today I finally dug into the matter and inspected the CSS being applied to the IAST template, using the Firebug add-on in Firefox. The exact CSS class that chooses these fonts is part of a Windows-specific CSS file: [[MediaWiki:Common.css/WinFixes.css]], and in here it is the "Unicode" class. I am proposing the following change to the "Unicode" class in this file, which I will explain.
