Pre 2021-22 season stuff should be moved to Turkish Women's Football First League

See tr:Kadınlar Süper Ligi. Women's Football Super League was created in 2021, while First Football League was founded in 1993. It didn't discontinue, but was removed to a level below. Beshogur (talk) 17:12, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Turkish Women's Football Super League → Women's Football Super League – The closest title to this name is Women's Super League, while this is officially called the Women's Football Super League. There is no other "Women's Football Super League", why should the title have Turkish in it. So it's redundant. I think the official name will fit better. • Oppose - to avoid ambiguity with the existing English Women's Super League which appears to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC based on pageviews by a large margin. Further, keeping the English translated title per WP:UE and WP:CONSISTENT with other national Women's Super Leagues, which pretty much all have the country name as disambiguation, except the English one which is the primary topic. Note that the existing DAB page for all of these is at Women's Super League (disambiguation), which lists 7 other Women's Football Super Leagues (in addition to the PT English one) and that the Wikinav data shows that pretty much the only outgoing traffic from it was to the English Rugby Football RFL Women's Super League, which is why I just made an edit to the primary topic article to bypass the DAB page for people looking for the rugby league as the most common traffic to it. But all that withstanding, for this RM of the Turkish League, the current title is appropriate per all of the above and WP:NATURAL disambiguation being preferred to WP:PARENTHDIS when possible per our WP:AT policies. Another proposal: Süper Lig (women) since we have Süper Lig. Thoughts? The reason there is "football" is because there is Women's Basketball Super League. @Raladic: you seem to oppose my first proposal but what about this? So since the word "football" is redundant in this context, because this was added to separate it from the women's basketball league, this makes it Kadın Süper Ligi, which basically means women's super league. So I think Süper Lig (women) seems the most logical and consistent with the men version. Beshogur (talk) 14:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

Also if this move happens, I'll propose Basketbol Süper Ligi (women) for Women's Basketball Super League in consistency with Basketbol Süper Ligi. Beshogur (talk) 19:57, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. After two months of discussion and three re-listings, there is no consensus for a move to Süper Lig (women), similar to the previous RM to Women's Football Super League. Instead a variety of alternatives were proposed; Kadınlar Süper Ligi, Women's Football Super League (Turkey), and Women's Super Lig. No prejudice against another RM to one of the alternative titles, but it might be worth considering further discussion and/or a multiple-choice survey to gather support for such a move prior to proposing, noting that there is no consensus to move to an alternative proposal either. • Support to be consistent with the men’s league per WP:Criteria, it is also natural and recognisable. It is unclear which names are used predominantly in English language sources so WP:UE is difficult to apply, but if loan words are used predominantly in English language sources then it is English. Another option is Kadinlar Super Lig but that is much less recognisable and unlikely to be what people search for.

It is not difficult to apply. If English-language sources use "Süper Lig", then that's what we use. If there is no established English-language name, then we translate it.

UE says If there are too few reliable English-language sources to constitute an established usage, follow the conventions of the language appropriate to the subject (German for German politicians, Portuguese for Brazilian towns, and so on). For lesser known geographical objects or structures with few reliable English sources, follow the translation convention, if any, used for well known objects or structures of the same type. The translation convention appears to just be for geographical topics. In accordance with the conventions for this topic, as above, we should use the Turkish name.
