editWHY ARE YOU PEOPLE BEING SO OBSTINATE?!!. BRENDA COWLING PASSED AWAY ON 2 OCTOBER 2010. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ADD DIFFERENT KINDS OF LINKS BUT YOU BULLHEADED PEOPLE JUST KEEP REVERTING MY EDITIONS. MY LAST ENTRY WAS NOT A BLOG, IT WAS NOT A FORUM, IT WAS AN ORDINARY WEBPAGE; BUT STILL YOU KEEP REJECTING ME!! YOU SAY THAT THE MAPLIN WEB PAGE IS ON SOME SORT OF LIST OF PAGES THAT SHOULDN'T BE ON WIKIPEDIA, BUT IT DOESN'T SAY WHY ANYWHERE AND I CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE PAGE. IS THIS THE THANKS YOU GET FOR TRYING TO HELP WITH INFORMATION?! I WASH MY HANDS OF IT ALL. THANKS FOR NOTHING!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.230.160.42 (talk) 17:26, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- The maplin website has been examined. It is not an acceptable, reliable source within the definition of Wikipedia policy at WP:RS. Acceptable sources for confirmation of a passing away are an obituary in The Times newspaper or other quality national daily newspaper, or recognised print media, or a BBC television news item that can be confirmed by the BBC web site. --Kudpung (talk) 11:08, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Imdb have now also reported Brenda Cowlings death on October 2, 2010. The only ones not reporting it is Wikipedia. English Wikipedia, that is. Foreign language Wikipedia also lists her as deceased. This is seriously starting to look ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.230.160.42 (talk) 16:37, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- Then her obit or notice of death should be appearing very soon in The Times or The Guardian or The Telegraph and we can proceed. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 19:41, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- Other Wikipedia projects and the IMDB are not recognised as reliable sources. The Wikipedia cannot quote itself. Furthermore, as thousands of websites mirror information that appears on the en.Wiki, it is possible that they have updted their sites from the few hours that unconfirmed information appeared in the en.Wiki. Acceptable is also a scanned copy of the death certificate, or local newspaper item announcing the time and date of the obsequies.--Kudpung (talk) 07:57, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Her death notice appeared in the "In Memoriam" section of last week's edition of The Stage, announcing she's passed away at Denville Hall on October 2nd and her funeral was to be held on the 15th. Surely this is enough. Crisso (talk) 14:02, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Do you have a copy and know this for sure? If so then that will be acceptable. Nasnema Chat 21:01, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
As a relative of Brenda, I am saddened that officious nitwits are getting in the way of keeping this article up to date. I can post pictures from the funeral if that would satisfy your desire for the hardest of hard evidence, Kudpung? -- ricmitch 08:59, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Well said, relative of Brenda! I couldn't agree with you more. Everyone's laughing at these overzelous red tapists! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.230.160.42 (talk) 17:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Page protection
editTemporary page protection requested today 15 October 2010. PP can be lifted as soon as official RS have been added to the page.--Kudpung (talk) 07:24, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Here is an obituary for a Brenda Cowling that died on October 6th 2010, could this be the actress? The name isn't that common. I hope for a quick answer. [1]
- It is impossible to know if this is the same person. Is not sufficient anyway. If she had died I am pretty sure by now notices would have been printed in The Guardian, The Telegraph, etc. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 00:15, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- http://www.yourannouncement.co.uk/ is not a reliable source (WP:RS) even broadly interpreted. There is also no reference to Cowling in the online version of Stage. There is something quite wrong here, especially the irreverent and distasteful remarks and personal attacks against regular, experienced Wikipdia editors, by apparent friends and relatives of the supposedly deceased.
- We have very good reasons for not mentioning the passing away of people without references to extremely verifiable sources: it is socially and morally intolerable to assume a person to have passed away when they might in fact still be alive. A few Wikipedia editors have been working for several months (including myself) on a special project to resolve this very problem.--Kudpung (talk) 01:34, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
A reference
editThis London Gazette reference has not been added to the article, which would, I think, not be appropriate - but I think it should be sufficient to support the information now included in the article. http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/59587/notices/1231628 Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 22:56, 1 November 2010 (UTC))
