Great job! This is a hilarious, yet somehow factual article. I don't know how long it'll stay up, and I'm not sure what the fair use laws are on posting the entire lyrics, and I really don't care. I particularly enjoyed the analysis of how many and what kinds of animals are needed for each garment. (I came across the article because I saw Beauty and the Beast on stage tonight, and my friends and I only remembered three lines of the song.) Re: Cricket Batting Graphs

Thanks for offering to help, but I really don't feel I need any. You are correct that I have a lot of graphs, but most of them are players who have retired, so of course they don't need any updating. I generally update the relevent graphs at the end of each test series. It doesn't actually take that long and the time between updates is often quite lengthy. Plus, I quite enjoy doing them! Star Trek is indeed Science Fiction

User:Nadirali posted a bit of a diatribe on the talk page for the main Star Trek article. I answered his concerns on his own talk page as follows:

Sir, I have read and noted your concerns on the Star Trek main article talk page. I am not going to call you a "moron" outright, although I may just question your motives in this case. This is not a reflection on your intelligence nor your capacity for rational thought (which it would be if I did call you a moron), but rather a rebuke against your provocative statements on that talk page which are clearly calculated to incite.

Star Trek is science fiction because it involves a narrative setting which differs from the present-day real world in terms of technology and futurology. The futurology aspect is "scientific" because the narrative specifically invokes scientific advances and discoveries as the motive force behind the development of society to the state seen in the stories. That is, economic and religious factors are negligible or absent factors in the narrated future as depicted in Star Trek; the characters do the things they do because they have more advanced scientific and technological knowledges, resources and tools than we do in this present day. This is axiomatically "science fiction".

You have - fairly, in my opinion - cited examples of storylines and narrative events which appear to have no scientific basis, eg Charlie Evans. However those things, whilst better classified as fantasy in their own right, do not alter the classification of the whole as science fiction. The characters in the episode Charlie X travel in a starship and do many other things which are science-based fiction.

You provocatively cite something which clearly irritates you personally, being the outrageous claim of Trekkies that the cell phone was invented thanks to Star Trek. Bringing up this one example - which is refutable by simply pointing to Get Smart or to Dick Tracy - diminishes your attempt to puncture Star Trek's scientific credentials, because you specifically failed to refute it. You merely pooh-poohed it, which is not a valid argument. It is well documented that the scientists and inventors of today have found inspiration in the fiction of the past, of which Star Trek is a part. The enthusiasm of Trekkies to promote the importance of their own in this process is perfectly understandable, and should not cause you any unease. If you don't agree with such fan statements, then good for you. I also think the importance of Star Trek in the development of late-20th century technology is overstated - the Apollo Program had many times the degree of influence.

I am disturbed by this statement of yours -

“ Forget I even asked.I came looking for answers(I even pleaded for answers only) not discussions.And both times I got lectures.So forget I even asked since I probably won;t find the answers i seek ”

- because your frustration (at being unable to engage Star Trek fans in a debate) clearly blinded you to the fact that you were the first to give a lecture. If you wanted answers, you should have asked a short and constructive question instead of sprinkling your lecture with merely rhetorical questions. "Where's the science in that?" is not a question seeking information, it is a rebuke phrased as a question and will usually not encourage meanignful answers.

This statement was buried in your lecture: I'd like someone to answer what Star Trek has to do with science at all. I conclude here by saying, I hope you now have a good answer, and that you can live with it. Darcyj 13:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Star Trek is actually sci-fi/fantasy

It was not my intention at all to provoke any Trekkies or to trash Star Trek in any way.(The only trashing it deserves is it is exagerrating the "science" in it or better "abusing scientific terms and concepts" as Dr Micheal Wong puts it.).I only provided a long list of examples,so my point is understood better and not rebuffed as a "lecture". True,Star Trek may have science in it but the magical elements are too significant to go unnoticed,(as I stated almost every episode and not just charlie X has it)which is why it should be classified as science fiction/fantasy. The "unease" that I have is that people(especially gullable people) who are not too well educated in science and mathamatics will start precieving Star Trek to be reality as Trekkies always promote it to be.I believed all this much before I even stumbled accross Dr Wong's page.(Whom by the way has recieved death threats and threats of injuries from Trekkies for the things he proves). I never said Trekkies are not allowed to promote their enthusiasm.Trekkies can call themselves Bush haters for all I care.But crossing the line is where they try to impose their beliefs that Star Trek is "science" or "the future"(thus misguiding people) or that "Star Trek rocks compared to Star Wars"(That's a POV by the way).Give me a break. Seeing you're a great contributer to the subject of cricket,do you think it's worth adding the cricket stand off that took place last summer between an English reffree and the Pakistan cricket team? I think it's worth mentioning as this never happened before in the history of cricket.

Welcome! WikiProject Australia is a WikiProject, which aims to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Australia and Australia-related topics. This newsletter exists simply to notify Australian Wikipedians of ongoing events within the project and relating to Australia on Wikipedia. Australian Wikimedia chapter Wikimedia chapters are independent organisations run by Wikimedians to further promote the Wikimedia projects run by the Wikimedia Foundation, and to "empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally". This means that we in the chapter can promote Wikipedia and other Wikimedia wikis and their contributor's work in our area. Currently, a chapter for Australia is in discussion. Recent happenings 2007 has been an excellent year for WikiProject Australia and its members – a sudden rise in article quality (see "Quality watch"), more article collaboration, portal creation, gap-filling article creation, image requests fulfilled, newsletter writing and award awarding. Success! A sudden surge in new Portals took place late in the year, with numerous new portals being created and later being promoted to featured status, the best a young portal can get. Among the portals currently being worked on are: South Australia, New South Wales, Australian cars, Music of Australia, Powderfinger, Queensland, with portals for a lot of other topics to come very soon in the new year. Portals and "topics" go hand in hand (not really), and many within the project and throughout Wikipedia aspire to achieve featured topic status for a particular topic. Goals to promote all capital cities to featured status, and among others, a Powderfinger featured topic, and a featured topic on The Invincibles cricket team. It's for sure that 2008 will be filled with Aussie pride, so hang in there with those flags, everyone! Especially on Australia Day, *hints surprises* :) Of course, writing featured articles and making up clever hooks for use on "Did you know" isn't the only way to contribute. Many users contribute day-in, day-out, maintaining the project and portals, tagging and assessing articles, making suggestions at featured article candidacies, coordinating collaborations within the project, responding to peer reviews, save valid articles in deletion debates, in short, the stuff that if not done, will cause the whole project as we know it to slowly deteroriate. Many users who don't qualify for awards like Durova's Triple Crown award, qualify for others. Moondyne recognised the users who work tirelessly every day to make sure that every thing is running smoothly by introducing a new award – the Drover's Award. Initiated in December, eight users have already received an award that is set to become a prestigious award for all Australia-related topic editors; SatuSuro, Longhair, Spebi, Moondyne, Grahamec, Mattinbgn and ScottDavis and more are sure to be awarded. If you know of any users who work tirelessly behind the scenes and have not yet been recognised for their greatly appreciated efforts, award them the Drover's Award. More users have been awarded Durova's Triple Crown award for WikiProjects. This award was given to WikiProject Australia after 5 users who qualified for Durova's standard crown (one DYK, GA, FA). New recipients include Matilda, Moondyne, Mattinbgn, VirtualSteve, Gnangarra, RaNdOm26, and Thebainer. If you believe you qualify, leave a note at Durova's talk page. Welcome! WikiProject Australia is a WikiProject, which aims to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Australia and Australia-related topics. This newsletter exists simply to notify Australian Wikipedians of ongoing events within the project and relating to Australia on Wikipedia. 200 GA Drive Last year, an informal pact/commitment was made late in the year to aim for 100 good articles by the end of the year. As a result, a net increase of 24 GAs was achieved in December 2007 and the GA count hit triple figures, ending the year on 106 GAs. This year seasonally adjusted, the GA production has been slower than in last during the May-November periods (see graphs below). At the start of the month, our WikiProject had 178 good articles. Another GA Drive has been organised, with the hope of reaching the double century by the end of the year or Australia Day 2009 at the least. As of 16 December, there are 180 GAs and 15 currently nominated, primarily in response to the GA appeal. Everyone's help is requested to make the drive a success. 2008 Summer Olympics photo drive Following the 2008 Summer Olympics, some Australian Wikipedians attended the various welcome home parades for the athletes, with one objective being to help create free images of the athletes. Previously, less than ten had photos. However, there are now over 100 athletes that do have photos, but unfortunately in some cases, they have not yet been identified. Help is requested for this purpose at the link above. Wikimedia Australia After much hard work in slogging through paperwork and government regulations, Wikimedia Australia was incorporated on 6 August, and membership was opened on 12 November. Its stated purpose is to be "an independent, not-for-profit organisation, whose primary aim is to promote equality of opportunity to access and participate in the collaborative creation of Free Cultural Works, especially educational works, and works about Australia, its culture, natural environment, and Australian news and media". It will be developing a joint publication with Creative Commons Australia, and members are in the process of spreading the Wikipedia message, with Wikipedia being introduced into the curriculum in some courses in Australia next year. The first AGM is planned for 11 January 2009. Casliber Well known Australian Wikipedian and polyglot FA writer Casliber, known for his writings on Australian wildlife among other things, has placed first in this year's arbitration election and appears certain to be appointed. Quality watch Mattinbgn is rather camera shy, so here is Harry Trott. 2008 saw a major feat for WikiProject Australia: 100 articles were promoted to featured article status. This is huge not only for the project's individual members and those who helped achieved such an impressive statistic, but for all of Wikipedia. Everyone involved has given readers from all around the world a chance to learn about Australia and relevant topics online from the best of sources. Congratulations to Mattinbgn, who wrote the 100th FA, Harry Trott. Also of note was the promotion of national icon Sir Donald Bradman, which then appeared as the main page FA on his 100th birthday. WikiProject Australia's maiden featured topics arrived early in the year, with Dream Days at the Hotel Existence and Powderfinger albums, both about the band Powderfinger. New South Wales and Music of Australia became featured portals. A further 13 featured lists have been produced. It would be great to see a wider range of Australian topics represented at FA in future. Two FAs were sent to Featured article review, but Bilby was instrumental in renovating and saving both Shrine of Remembrance and Waterfall Gully, South Australia. ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Darcyj. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
