Rollback granted

edit

Hi Pachu Kannan. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 11:28, 9 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sengol in Malayalam?

edit

@Pachu Kannan your user profile indicates you may be knowing Malayalam language. Recently I have been working on User:Bookku/Indian sceptre. I am looking for some information help regarding Malayalam sources.

1) How do you write word Sengol in Malayalam script ?

2) Is there any separate word for Sengol or sceptre in Malayalam language ? or word Sengol or some other Sanskrit word is used in Malayalam?

3) If Malayalam language uses separate word then how that would be written in English / Roman script

4) Are there any pre-2023 (before ongoing controversy began) reliable sources in Malayalam language in google scholar or google books ? If available I would request your assistance in expanding my user-space draft User:Bookku/Indian sceptre.

Israeli civilian fatalities

edit

Since you are invested tracking and updating the casualties from the Israel-Gaza conflict, your input on this discussion here [1] would be appreciated. The issue of the IDF reservist, who is counted as a military fatality by Israel, has been resolved. The issue remains in regards to AFP's toll of civilian victims of October 7th. AFP has previously said their reporting of the toll of October 7th includes civilian hostages who were taken to Gaza, but since confirmed dead. Since we had already included in the infobox hostage deaths separately, I downsized the AFP toll to remove hostages whose bodies were subsequently recovered from Gaza, so there won't be doublecounting. An editor has objected to this, requesting we list in the infobox the full civilian toll reported by AFP (which includes hostage deaths). I have stated that I have no objection to this, but that then we would need to remove the separately listed civilian hostage figure because it would be doublecounting since they are included in the AFP toll as well. We can add in brackets beside the death toll of October 7th how many of those were hostages. But doublecounting should be avoided. Like I said, your input would be appreciated. EkoGraf (talk) 15:11, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

The said user seems to present the article _targetting the Muslim community in a bad light. So I had changed the tone without changing the meaning to present it in a more neutral point of view. Also he is not allowing me to complete the story. After the incident have happened, the Muslim community have apologized for the incident. Also State SFI president have clarified they are not involved in the protests. He is not allowing me to put both these sentences in the article. They are credible sources that I have added for the both these sources. The said used അദ്വൈതൻ have repeatedly warned of edit wars in the past and have been blocked.Could you please see the section yourself? Consecutive refs

edit

Hello! I appreciate your contributions to Israel-Hamas War and Israel-Hezbollah conflict so I'd like to give you a tip to avoid future problems in editing. One is that there is no need to put the same ref consecutively at the end of every sentence within a paragraph unless it is bundled with another ref. The second is that some of your edits were flagged for WP:RECENTISM. Some editors may have explained to you that this is because the articles are not day-to-day reportage of the war. But you may find these edits useful in the timeline articles on these conflicts. Borgenland (talk) 13:00, 9 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your useful tips. I myself removed at least some of the content added by me per WP:RECENTISM from Israel-Hamas War that I think violate this policy. Pachu Kannan (talk) 13:14, 9 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Israeli civilian deaths

edit

I have found a source, a regularly updated OCHA chart, of both Israeli and Palestinian casualties, including civilians specifically. It is currently updated to July 8th. I have researched their chart and found that it includes all of the Palestinian-related Israeli deaths (11 to be specific) in the West Bank and Israel during the conflict, except three - the 1 civilian mistakenly killed by Israeli forces (chart says it includes only fatalities caused by Palestinian militants) and 2 civilians shot and killed by Palestinians in January near Ofra (don't know why they are not included). I have added the chart as a source for the 11 (noting in the reference the filter that needs to be applied in the chart) and also noted that the three civilians are not included in the chart, bringing the total to 14 killed for the period. Periodically we should look up the chart if its been updated, and update the figure, so the list note doesn't get too unnecessarily big again. I also wanted to thank you for all your hard work on updating all of the figures in the infobox! :) Happy edditing! EkoGraf (talk) 17:00, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Maybe there should be a "West Bank" section on the Israeli side of the casualties in the {{Israel–Hamas war infobox}}, to mirror the regional breakdown for Palestinian casualties? (tag me if you reply, please) FourPi (talk) 07:27, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
FourPi Most of the international community consider the territory part of Palestine occupied by Israel, though this is disputed by Israel. So I think that it is better to include it on the Palestinian side of casualties. Pachu Kannan (talk) 08:28, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

2024 Wayanad Landslides

edit

Posting here since any talk page discussions on the article are closed immediately and it's not exactly conducive to a rational and thoughtful discussion across multiple users. Hoping you can help me understand as you did previously. The current death count of 442 feels like WP:SYNTH to me. I reviewed the central govt report that you and another user discussed, and it says 231 dead bodies and 211 body parts. We are arriving at our own conclusions by adding the two together to arrive at a death count. This is definitely WP:SYNTH to me, but maybe you can explain the rationale. Again posting here as a genuine question because any activity on the article itself is nearly impossible without being completely shut down/reverted/discussion closed Schwinnspeed (talk) 15:24, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Many reliable sources also mentioned that over 400 people died using the same rationale. For example, please read https://www.business-standard.com/india-news/wayanad-landslides-death-toll-crosses-400-mark-over-150-still-missing-124080700592_1.html. It was also the same rationale used by Health Minister of Kerala Veena George. Please read https://thewire.in/environment/nightmare-in-wayanad-torrential-rains-triggered-landslides-but-climate-change-may-not-be-the-sole-culprit. But still it may be an original research as exact death toll mentioned in that article is not explicitly mentioned in the reliable sources. Pachu Kannan (talk) 16:11, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree multiple sources say over 400 people have died. but the sources themselves keep it general and don't state a specific number like 442. And they don't reference the calculation. Whereas the WP article specifically says 442, and then there is a note on the bottom that shows the calculation. I'm agreeing with your point around the DNA test results - my concern is we are stating very specific numbers that is an inference and considered WP:SYNTH. Wouldn't it be better to just say 'over 400' and link the references above? Schwinnspeed (talk) 17:26, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think that this problem is now solved. Pachu Kannan (talk) 03:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Template:Israel–Hamas war infobox

edit

Hi. We were editing Template:Israel–Hamas war infobox at the same time and I thought I accidentally reverted your edit when I saved mine. But then when I tried to fix it I couldn't work out what was going on. I think I fixed it, but you might want to check that whatever you were adding is still there. (Tag me if you reply, please.) FourPi (talk) 08:26, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

There's no need to worry. Content added by me is still there. Pachu Kannan (talk) 08:32, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Notable people

edit

"Notable people" sections are inappropriate for an encyclopedia because they are completely opinionated, subjective, and uncritical, and are suitable for women's teen magazines rather than anything serious.2804:F04:906B:5A00:63D0:D2D0:69C4:1FDC (talk) 16:45, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. But notable people sections are normally added in Wikipedia articles about human settlements. You can remove it if you think that it is unnecessary. Pachu Kannan (talk) 16:51, 9 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

War Israel vs Libano

edit

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that 105 people died and another 359 were injured in the attacks, this is typical of a war and not a conflict. I suggest changing the title of Israel–Hezbollah conflict (2023–present) to Israel's War on Lebanese Territory. 181.197.42.215 (talk) 05:26, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Consensus of Wikipedia editor's are necessary for changing the title. More WP:RS should also call it as a war. Pachu Kannan (talk) 12:25, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:43, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

May I ask what your rationale is for adding an event under each day? Because it just looks like to me that you're adding every single thing that happens, and the result now is an article that is too bloated and more than 1 million bytes in size. Procyon117 (talk) 14:34, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I am only adding Israeli strikes with at least 10 reported deaths. The only exception is reported deaths of woman and children or clearly mentioned deaths of militants or civilian men. If a Hezbollah or Hamas or any other non state actor's (Iran's proxy's) attack is causing casualties on Israelis, it is added by me and other things that it think as notable. Can you help to split this article and Timeline of the Israel–Hezbollah conflict (17 September 2024 – present) with a breakthrough event. Pachu Kannan (talk) 15:12, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I do appreciate your work so far, but unfortunately I don't know how to split articles or even what the breakoff would be here, I'm not really finding any breakthrough events that I would consider appropriate for a split. You'd probably have to find someone more knowledgeable than me on this. Procyon117 (talk) 15:43, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
