Hebrew deletions

You're right Palmiro, I was worried you'd go around deleting Hebrew names. An overzealous anonymous user deleted it a weke or two ago; perhaps they saw it as a claim that Jews invented za'atar (and falafel, and the Quran, and...). Thanks for adding the Arabic. Questions

Dear Palmiro,

I received welcome comments from you on my talk page the first time I edited an article on Wikipedia, Thank you. In these comments you sugested that I could ask you questions on your talk page, so this is what I am doing.

1- I noticed on a page that I am watching that a picture was removed by "Orphan Bot" with a title (Removing image with no copyright information. Such images that are older than seven days may be deleted at any time.) I happen to know the author of the picture and also know that she has no problem for the usage of this picture in any way or place. What should be done to be able to use this picture without anybody removing it. I imagine that Orphan Bot is an automated process that cannot be convinced by a discussion.

2- A user corrected an information on this same page, but his information is not accurate. Unfortunately the author of this correction is only an IP address. What should be done to avoid having him make the same intervention again if I correct his miscorrection.

Ah, this just gets better and better. I sincerely hope that you, in spite of your (quite understandable) distaste of these rows at least make a summary of your editing in the -48 war. Yes, I realize it will take quite some time (given the vast amount of your editing in that article), but I thought it was quite instructive;-)

I have just watched Dhimmi from the side-lines; never edited there. However, I used to edit Zionism and racism, but gave up: just read the three first paragraphs to understand why. I have been tempted to pour some oil on the fire in the Dhimmi article, by inserting the "logic" of the Zionism and racism article there ;-D ....i.e: "as anybody is free to convert to Islam, the Dhimmi status cannot be discrimination! Pr. definition!" Lol!

As for the situation in the world in general: I have now learned that there is not a single Dane or Norwegian left in the ME ..or in any Muslim country. Not one. All have left. There are, however, quite a few blue-eyed, nervous-looking people "from Iceland" around.... (Actually, Swedes, or rather Swedish girls, have been "from Iceland" for decades now... courtesy of the Swedish porn Industry. I´m not joking!). Iceland would be an extremely crowded island if all its "expats" returned! One example: one journalist in Teheran, earlier known as a Norwegian, who is now "from Iceland"....[2] ...eh, the head-line says "If you had been from Denmark we would have killed you." Aoife

Ok, good question, it certainly isn't a translation, but people, people here in Ireland always say Aoife is the equivalent of Eve and this is backed up by all those stupid unscholarly name sites, a sort of folk legend that noone really cares enough about to set straight. I guess this casual belief in names being equivalent is kind of meaningless, even in the cases where the names are clearly derived from English names, like Liam or Eoin, it doesn't make them equivalent and in the rare case of an Eve seeking an Irish language name she would be as free to call herself Aoife as anything else: change the article if you want. non-Arab Middle East Christians

I think you should have a look at the doings of some anti-Arab Christian activists who designed a totally inaccurate and propagandist Syriacs box, mentioning Maronites and Melkites as "Syriacs", thus non-Arabs, which I proposed for deletion here. There are non-Arab Christians there, be they Armenians or Assyrians, but these fanatics include Arabized Christians in their anti-Arab dreams. Pylambert 23:07, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Hamas

You explained your edits, however you deleted all the part added concerning new developments, without saying it. This part was explaining what is happening right now, and definitely concerned the issues about Hamas' non-recognition of Israel. Beside, you (or i'm mistaken) deleted loads of sources in other parts which I am putting back. They were all backed by source. I personally support a more liberal use of semi-protection, particularly for editors who use dynamic IPs to edit war, but others feel that full protection is more appropriate in those cases. Just to say that I don't think the "master plan" theory of Khalidi can be based on the "transfer principle of Morris simply because developed this thesis after Khalidi wrote his.

More it is me who gathered all this section in "what generated the palestinian exodus ?" but I still wondered why the transfer principle should come there because it describes something else...

Lol, I was really surprised when I realised that someone is watching my userpage. Anyway, I've changed it because it was really hard to maintain and to add new stuff. I took the code from another page and I just made minor adjustments. Here's the links that you needed: Lebanon-related articles in the Arabic Wikipedia that have no english equivalent and Lebanon-related articles in the French Wikipedia that have no english equivalent. Not only that, I have from time to time pointed it out to new contributors writing on Lebanese topics. Actually, I think it might be worthwhile having a Lebanese, or a Levantine (Lebanon + Syria + Jordan - or would that bring back too many unhappy memories) or Mashriq portal/noticeboard, like the one for Palestine. I'll support that. I'm actually thinking of a collaboration that will bring Lebanon-related articles to the featured status. The only problem, is that I don't think there is a lot of active editors who have interest in Lebanon-related articles, while each one of these articles, like you know, is highly controversial. Lebanon

The article Lebanon is horrible, totally NPOV, unbalanced, not accurate and it needs a complete rewrite. That's why I created Lebanon/Temp to start writing it from scartch. If you're interested you can, if you have time, begin to fill each section with information (referenced and sourced information of course). And if you know interested users, you can invite them also. I hope it will be finally a featured article. Just some recommendations:

• The Cedar Revolution part should not exceed a small paragraph.
• We should focus on the religion part.
• We should keep it NPOV, especially with the anti and pro-syrian, the arab and phoenician subjects.

A suggestion (Excellent to my mind :D )

Hi Palmiro,

This is regarding the dhimmi, jizya and rules of war in islam articles. I think RfC is not a good idea since we are not sure if both articles are free from any problems. I have a suggestion: All editors involved in this mediation nominate a few editors(not among themselves). They are better to be administrator or at least experienced editors(e.g. Zora ) and concede their editing right to their nominated editors. These people will form the editor committee. All the editors have to promise not to edit the articles directly anymore, but just try to convince the editor committee if they want to make any change to the article(The articles can be blocked from editing). The final decisions are however made by the editor committee(maybe voting). I hope that concensus could be achieved easier there. How is my idea? I *really* think we shouldn't bring the media into this, as I think it will cause nothing but trouble. The media is in no way a reliable source for anything, and I can think of nothing farther from NPOV than the media. If you insist on this however, let's discuss it on the Talk page first... Hi Palmiro - I haven't been able to log on much during the past few days. I just left a piece of my mind at Talk:Palestinian territories but have to go now... However, just wanted to let you know that, unlike Abu Ammar, Mahmoud Abbas actually does have a son named Mazen, hence the name. Actually, did have a son named Mazen, he died a few years ago of a heart attack; he was only in his early forties. As for your Syrian public health system, let's just say that the Gaza Strip makes both Syria and Ireland look excellent by comparison, and settle with that :) Salam. I just created Syrian nationalism rather spontaneously. I'm no expert in the subject, and perhaps you would care to take a look at it? Palmiro, I have just looked at your ammendment to the article and the comments you have left on the Talk page. A definite improvement.

There is no problem with source material. I have Thomson's biography of PL,(exhaustive!) which confirms everything that is in the text except for PL's attitude to Soviet (and Chinese) communist repression. I shall substitute material from the scholastic version of "Se questo è un uomo" 1976 which he included in the edition I have.

Syrian & Palestinian Nationalism

Agree with your edits, Karama especially is important. Possibly the support from Egypt & Syria should be qualified: they were nearly the only ones involved before 67, with the early Fatah and other now-extinct groups (although Saudi Arabia & others did some financing). But after 67 more support kicked in from these states in particular, but also from other gov's. Anyway, minor point.

Also agree about SSNP. I'm not aware that there exists a Greater Syria trend outside of it today, although I would be surprised if there isn't some intellectual conspirators' coterie somewhere.

I don't think I have the time or energy to get involved with any major Isra-Pal controversies, although from a brief look at the discussion page, you seemed to be right, and someone else seemed to be wrong. For what it's worth. Arre 00:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
