As I understand WP policies on relevant articles, this one does not fall under it: The mascot may be relevant, but it is already covered at 2009 World Championships in Athletics. The additional information on which athlete Berlino was hugging or over which hurdles he stumbled is clearly insignificant and unimportant. - Keep I think due to the press coverage this mascot received during the championships is far in excess of any other mascot and has been noted numerous times in the press which gives notability. I understand that the article when nominated wasn't amazing so I am currently in the process of overhauling this article and wikifying it, although I have real world stuff on at the moment so will be doing it over the next few days, have made a start though Bacchus87 (talk) 20:08, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment I agree that there was quite significant coverage of Berlino in the press which may amount to overall notability. There's certainly something to talk about here. Olympic mascots have already been covered, I'd argue that Berlino meant as much to this year's World Championships in Athletics as Misha meant to the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The mascot has been prominent throughout. The notability guidelines aren't inflexible, although I wouldn't be overly-bothered if the article was deleted. But, in general it seems like a reasonable topic to write about, and I'm sure people would like to read an article about this mascot. - Keep The two lasting memories of the World Championships event (watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world) are Usain Bolt's performances and Berlino's antics. The media followed Berlino to the extent that he was discussed in the national press of every country, and he has become a fictional character of extreme significance. Other mascots have a page. Berlino is more important and will leave longer memories than the event from which he was generated, and so deserves his own page. Judging by the amount of hits and changes the Berlino page got in it's first few days I believe it would be wrong to delete it. I created the basic page initially so that other people would add to it, and it is progressing very well. I can only imagine that the users who ask for it to be deleted are ones who have little interest in this subject area, and do not understand the popularity of the character and what he represented. - Keep This bear's gotten significant coverage on its own as well as part of more general news articles on the competition. It's fine if it's mentioned in the main article, but there's enough info that could be added to form at least a healthy stub (as already done). Merging is a possibility, but this would likely add undue weight in the main article. Joshdboz (talk) 12:13, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep due to significant press coverage with no prejudice against a merger discussion on the talk page if the article cannot move past a stub. youngamerican (wtf?) 14:14, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Berlino was - besides Usain Bolt - one of the "stars" of the Berlin IAAF athletics and has been the object of widespread press coverage worldwide during the games. Due to his many significant actions that are worth becoming in the retrospective the highlights of the IAAF athletics the article must be kept. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vadiaa (talk • contribs) 14:26, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - There are many articles about him from reliable sources, and has recieved widespread press coverage throughout the world. SummerHoliday 16:13, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep - heavy reliable coverage. you've the fastest man in the world wearing an 'ich bin ein berlino' T-shirt, so notability is no problem! Jw2035 (talk) 19:35, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Berlino is an international celebrity. There is no doubt Berlino has become a major highlight of this World Championships.--Junsun (talk) 05:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Berlino was a revelation at the World Championships. I think common sense should prevail here and everyone should understand that he has really become a celebrity and treasure. There are many other pointless Wikipedia pages were deleting than this one. Keep it, he deserves his Wikipedia page and people are aware of him now. - Keep, plenty of third-party coverage. Disclosure: I declined an A7 prod for this article. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:39, 29 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]
- Obvious Keep The fact that he is already discussed at the main championships article is irrelevant. A description of his activities is relevant and important because it is Berlinos exploits which are the reason for the significant media coverage he received. Sports event mascots normally do nothing and attract no attention at all; it is Berlinos interaction with the athletes that made him unusual and a talking point. I watched the event coverage on the BBC, and they talked about him a lot; suggesting he was too prominent, and that he had crossed a line in the level of his interaction with athletes. I am struggling to think of a more notable mascot; we have many articles on different sports teams mascots; Berlino is arguably better known than any of them. We have numerous non-incidental references to him in reputable sources, which means he is notable. End of. Willy turner (talk) 22:54, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
