Heves county is in Northern Hungary. Heves county is a geographically diverse area; its northern part is mountainous (the Mátra and Bükk are the two highest mountain ranges in Hungary), while at south it includes a part of the Great Hungarian Plain. From south it is bordered by Lake Tisza, the largest artificial lake in Hungary.

Eger city, which is considered one of Hungary's most beautiful baroque cities. Its monuments with excellent wines and medicinal waters also attract many tourists. The shores of Lake Tisza are a popular holiday area, and the hiking trails of the Mátra and Bükk regions are a special experience for those who love romantic mountain hikes. Medical tourism is also present in the county, its baths include the Markhot Ferenc Hospital Turkish Bath (Pasha Arnaut Bath)).

Wine grapes are grown on a significant part of the arable land. A particularly important area is Eger and its surroundings, Gyöngyös and Nagyréde, which are a historical wine region. The most famous wines of the county are Egri Bikavér, Egri Leányka, Egerszóláti Olaszrizling and Debrői Hárslevelű.
