Etymology
editFrom Proto-Semitic *ṭaḥan-. Cognate with Akkadian 𒁲𒂊𒉡𒌝 (ṭênum) and Arabic طَحَنَ (ṭaḥana).
Verb
editטָחַן • (takhán, ṭɔḥan) (pa'al construction)
- to grind, to crush
- to talk incessantly
- (colloquial) to have sex.
- Tanach, Job 31:10, with translation of the American Standard Version:
- תִּטְחַן לְאַחֵר אִשְׁתִּי; וְעָלֶיהָ יִכְרְעוּן אֲחֵרִין.
- titḥán ləaḥér iští; və'aléha yichrə'ún aḥerín.
- May my wife grind for another; And let others kneel down over her.
