Etymology

From earlier Bahia de Todos os Santos (Bay of All Saints), after a bay on its coast. bahia is an obsolete spelling of baía (bay); the name of the state was specially mentioned as an example of the exception for traditional placenames in the spelling reform that proscribed <h> between vowels.
