Shipbuilding verb
editWe are missing an archaic verb sense, possibly something done to timber in ship-building. Search for "to be sided" in Google Books. Equinox ◑ 00:18, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Done at some stage, it seems. Equinox ◑ 16:28, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
TV channel
editAlthough the etymology for using the word 'side' for a tv channel may be out-of-date, aren't most etymologies like this? Most people still use it, so it's not dated in that respect. 2.97.166.22 21:44, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- I haven't heard anyone say it in UK for many years. Where are you located? Have you seen it in print recently, e.g. newspapers? Equinox ◑ 21:48, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- I say ‘side’ quite a lot personally. Perhaps I’m just dated myself though? Overlordnat1 (talk) 09:40, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
No Danish section
editI am surprised that there is no Danish section in this page while a link to it can be found in siden. -- Fred Regent (talk) 18:02, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
- Feel free to add it. — Ungoliant (falai) 18:04, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Side and zid, possibly related
editZid, meaning a wall (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/zid), may possibly be related to the first and second definitions of the noun side.
side being "either of two parts or areas into which something can be divided relative to the observer" The playing field is on the far side of the park. (btw, what's the opposite of this meaning of side?) --Backinstadiums (talk) 09:34, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- That would be "on this side" of the park. SemperBlotto (talk) 10:03, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- "Near side" is an option. Far and near are opposites. Equinox ◑ 12:44, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

For example in attack from the side? --Backinstadiums (talk) 10:21, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- Why would this need an entry? You can attack from the back, the rear, the front, the north, the best location for an ambush... Equinox ◑ 16:29, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

[https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/let+the+side+down To let down the group. Primarily heard in UK, Australia. Note: A side is one of the teams in a game or competition.] I'm rubbish at football, so I'd rather not play than let the side down.
