slyšet
Czech
editEtymology
editInherited from Old Czech slyšěti, from Proto-Slavic *slyšati, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlew-.
Pronunciation
editVerb
editslyšet impf (perfective uslyšet)
Usage notes
editThe imperatives are not used exactly to express an order, but rather to keep contact or get into contact with the listener, for example "Poslyš, Petře, chtěl jsem se tě zeptat, …". The verb poslouchat (“listen”) is used to express an order connected with perceiving with ears.[1]
