Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تخمین ایتمك (taḫmin itmek, etmek, to estimate),[1][2] from تخمین (taḫmin), equivalent to compound of tahmin (a guess, an estimation) +‎ etmek (to do, to make).[3]

  1. (transitive) To guess roughly, to conjecture.
  2. (transitive) To forecast based on data, hunch etc.
    Geleceği tahmin etmek zordur.
    It is difficult to predict the future.
