editFrom Western Hispanic Late Latin *taxūcu, probably from Gothic *𐌸𐌰𐌷𐍃𐌿𐌺𐍃 (*þahsuks), diminutive of *𐌸𐌰𐌷𐍃𐌿𐍃 (*þahsus), from Proto-Germanic *þahsuz. Cognate with Portuguese texugo and dialectal Spanish tasugo.[1]
