Wikipedia in universities

We have a rather successfully started collaboration with different universities in Estonia.

For example there were at least 11 courses in University of Tartu at 2011/12 that made students write articles in Estonian Wikipedia and that produced ca 550 articles (more than 0.5% of all articles in Estonian Wikipedia). And there were some additional courses in other universities as well.

Articles written by students:

  • 2009/10 - 60
  • 2010/11 - 200
  • 2011/12 - 600
  • 2012/13 - 500

In 2011/12 we had a 2 ECTS course "Wikipedia" in Tartu University at Institute of Journalism and Communication. That continued in 2012/13 under Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science as a 3 ECTS course. It talked not only about Wikipedia but also about copyright issues, crowdsourcing, encyclopedias, free software, information society, popular science, relations between Wikipedia and media, wiki software, Wikipedia in education, photography, etc. In 2013/14 it was named as "About free culture on the example of Wikipedia".
