Kaixo, Galder. Aldaketa hau egin dut; izan ere, ia galzoriko espezie ingelesez near endangered species da; near threatened species, berriz, euskaraz espezie ia mehatxatu da (ikus, Euskaltermen, threatened species = espezie mehatxatu). Beraz, taxotaula infotaula eta taxotaula automatikoa aldaketa horren arabera eguneratzen saiatu naiz, baina ez dut asmatu (adibidez, «Bechstein saguzar» artikuluan, Invalid status abisua dugu). Zuzentzerik bai? --- Xabier Armendaritz   2024-12-09, 14:07 (UTC)

Fully incorrect years of earliest mentions in hundreds of articles on Czech towns

aldatu

Kaixo! Sorry for writing in English, as my Basque is very limited. I am Czech and after reading an article on the Czech town of Český Krumlov on Basque Wikipedia, I just realized that something must have gone terribly wrong with your bot mass creating such articles back in 2018. Namely, this medieval town admired by foreign tourists had had year 1787 recorded in the article as the year of its earliest mention, until I just fixed it with help of Czech/English/German/any other Wikipedia version.

When I looked at your bot's edit history, I quickly realized that you must have shifted the years by one article, eventually creating many false claims on Czech town origins on the Basque Wikipedia at once! I have no doubt that most of them remain even after the 6 years that have passed. The earliest mistake on that day which I could find is in the article Břehy (Special:Diff/6325691) which gives year 1056 while the correct one for that village is 1073 and the one used applies to Břeclav (two edits earlier). From then on, the years in the articles on Czech municipalities state wrong years (compare them with Wikidata).

For instance, Břevnice gives year 1220, while that is actually the correct earliest mention for Břest (again, two edits earlier). Somehow this changed to only one edit at some points of that day, but an error persists through many hundreds of articles including the edits on later days, at least until 19 July 2018. Sometimes I could find places with the correct year, but then a few edits later errors again appear (I guess this might be related to some of the places having no year stated in the article text, which may have contributed to the unwanted shifts in the tables you have used to program your bot).

I believe that, as the bot owner who has created the articles with these incorrect statements, you now need to fix them – by either changing to the correct years (this information can now be easily found on Wikidata), or by removing the incorrect statements from the articles (less preferred). Before this is done, hundreds of articles on Czech municipalities on Basque Wikipedia will continue providing completely misleading information (which often is also the only information on the place's history at the same time), such as making a medieval city look like a rather recent settlement etc.

I will be happy to hear back from you and can help you checking some particular cases if you ask for that, but I by far do not have the time to check or fix each and every of those hundreds of articles manually. After all, that is what bots are meant to be here for, right? :-)

Thanks @Blahma. Indeed, this is a terrible mistake. I will take care of it as soon as possible, maybe this afternoon. Thanks for noting it! Theklan (eztabaida) 09:13, 22 abendua 2024 (CET)Reply
I have the bot making a change, and adding the date with a Wikidata search. I hope this solves most of the issues, but there might be some that should be changed by hand. I'm struggling with the "gregorian date" thing in the Wikidata result. Theklan (eztabaida) 12:11, 22 abendua 2024 (CET)Reply
