Chocobo Billy, also known as Choco Billy, is a non-player character in the Final Fantasy VII series. He has a minor role in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He helps his grandfather Choco Bill run the Bill's ranch alongside his younger sister Chloe. Billy conducts business in the stables, caring for and boarding chocobos.[1][2]

In Final Fantasy VII, Billy sold the Chocobo Lure, feeds, and rented out stables for Cloud Strife's party to use.

History

Before Final Fantasy VII

Billy and Chloe lost their parents at a young age and were raised by their grandfather. Billy eventually became a farmhand and was put in charge of the stables, following in his grandfather's footsteps and showing promise as a businessman.[1][2]

Original continuity

When Cloud's party visited the Chocobo Farm in "Going After Sephiroth", Bill directed them to Billy to rent chocobos. He was unable to lend out any chocobos, shared information on the birds, suggested they catch one in the wild, and sold them a lure. Before the party left, he recommended buying greens.[3] Afterward, Billy rented out chocobo stables to Cloud's party, looked after their birds, and rated their quality.[4]

Characteristics

Appearance

Choco Billy and a chocobo from FFVII Rebirth

Billy is a teenage boy with an average build. He has tan skin, freckles, grayish-blue eyes, medium-length red hair, and has a plaster across his nose. In Final Fantasy VII, Billy wore a brown hat with a yellow chocobo plume, a white t-shirt, a light brown neckerchief, brown gloves, green shorts, and brown shoes.

In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Billy wears a black hat with a teal band and a chocobo plume over a white bandana, a yellow-green neckerchief, a white collared shirt, and blue denim coveralls with a chocobo patch in the center. He also wears a patched navy blue undershirt, gray rubber gloves, a red, yellow, and black wristband, and black rubber boots.

Personality

Billy is close with his sister and encourages people to patronize her shop. He has inherited his grandfather's good nature, capability, and knack for business. He is particular in matters of profit and loss,[2] fixated on making money, and is well-versed and knowledgeable when it comes to chocobos.[3][1]

Etymology

His English name sounds similar to "Chocobo". The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".

食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
