An empyrean weapon was designed for each weapon category, like the Relic Weapons rather than the Mythic Weapons. The Empyrean Armor sets look identical to the Artifact and Relic counterparts.

Story
Back to the Beginning
Mysterious structures referred to as the cavernous maws appear all around Vana'diel. As the adventurer approaches one, it springs to life, absorbing the adventurer and sending them to an unknown location. Once there, the adventurer sees an orifice of an enormous creature in the sky. A voice rings out, asking the adventurer for help and appearing in a blast of energy, revealing a regal feline who sends the adventurer flying over a cliff. The adventurer falls out of this realm, and lands back near the city of Jeuno.
Two knights on their chocobos witness a cavernous maw much like the one that appeared before the adventurer but this one is alive and floating. They find the adventurer lying on the ground and bid them to make for safety as the open fields are rife with beastmen. The adventurer discovers they have been sent twenty years into the past directly into the Crystal War when the beastmen and the Allied Forces clashed and the Shadow Lord reigned. Once the adventurer arrives at Crawler's Nest, a fortified location for the Allied Forces, they tell the guard that they are an adventurer. The guard gives the adventurer a letter to be taken to any of the three outer nations.
The adventurer becomes a member of their military effort and completes assignments for the nation they took the letter to. After several assignments, the adventurer ends up back at a cavernous maw which absorbs them once again and spits them back out into that strange darkened area from before. The adventurer hears the same voice belonging to the feline who reveals themselves. She tells the adventurer of a prophecy relating to a Harbinger and a champion. She alludes to the adventurer sharing a hidden power to bend time itself but lacks the ability to control it. She tells the adventurer that her mission is to stop the war that rages across the land and asks the adventurer for aid. Once the adventurer agrees, she introduces herself Cait Sith and sends the adventurer to find a way to stop this war.
After returning to the nation they are fighting for and completing more assignments, the adventurer ends up in San d'Oria where they see a crowd running to a performance of a dance troupe, the Troupe Mayakov. The adventurer heads towards the performance and spots the leader of the troupe, Mayakov himself. He discovers that the adventurer does not have a ticket and has them removed from the show. The adventurer notices a man named Turlough fighting with his wife about attending the show.
With nothing else the adventurer can do, they travel back to the present time to try and gather clues in Jeuno. By chance, the adventurer runs into Turlough, now an old man watching dancing performers in the street. He reminisces about the Moonshade Butterfly, and about that day in San d'Oria where he remembers the event. The adventurer saw the same event unfold where his wife found him and forced him back home, making him miss the show. He tells the adventurer that people even today remember the performance that day of a dancer known as the Moonshade Butterfly. He still has the ticket all these years later and offers it to the adventurer seeing no harm in giving the old relic to a kind stranger.
Ticket in hand, the adventurer returns to the past and enters the show but Mayakov insists the ticket must be a forgery and demands that the adventurer be thrown out of town for deception. A knight, Ragelise, comes to the adventurer's aid, feigning to be their friend to help them get into the show having sensed the adventurer's hardened warrior presence, believing all soldiers deserve some time away from the horror of war.
The show begins with three dancers stepping out onto the stage. The middle dancer is the Moonshade Butterfly, a dancer named Lilisette, who begins her fabled solo performance. Ragelise explains that her background is a mystery. She appeared from seemingly nowhere and joined the troupe, passing their strict standards with flying colors. All that is known about her is that her father is Elvaan and that her mother is a Hume. Her mysterious background lends to her high station in the zeitgeist. As the adventurer leaves the show, Cait Sith walks by, startling them. Before the adventurer can ask Cait Sith what she is doing here, she leaves the area.
A Timeswept Butterfly
When Ragelise returns to the Chateau d'Oraguille, he is informed that a strategic position in the region is being overrun. He commands his soldiers to deploy there immediately, however, the remainders of his forces are too small to reinforce the position adequately; he informs his soldiers that he has an ace of his sleeve. The dancers of Troupe Mayakov have agreed to supplement their forces. In truth, the dancers are not simply showmen but are also capable fighters.
The adventurer chases after Cait Sith who begins talking about the state of things. Once they get to Ronfaure, Lilisette is in the trees above, staring down at their meeting curiously. More dancers appear leaping out at Cait Sith who is captured. Cait Sith lashes out, escaping from their grasp before disappearing in a flash of energy. Lilisette believes Cait Sith to be a beastman from the future in disguise and her obsession with catching her is because she wants to find her intentions. Lilisette insists that the adventurer come with her and grills them on their relationship to the cat.
The adventurer sees Ragelise and his troops, as well as Portia, the dancer that agreed to accompany them, about to head out. Lilisette runs over to them and alludes to having some knowledge of things not being meant to play out this way. Portia admits that her predictions are often correct. This makes the adventurer think that Lilisette might be a time traveler like themself. With her warning against going onward, the group writes Lilisette off who asks the adventurer if they have come from the future. She mentions that by now the adventurer must have figured out that something feels wrong, offering a breakdown of the events as the adventurer knows them. The region that the knights are headed to will be crushed and conquered by the orcs who will rename it to Davoi, a stronghold for the beastmen in the present time. She tells the adventurer that this event is not supposed to be happening this early in the war and that something must be wrong in the timeline for things to be shifting around like this.
The adventurer arrives in La Vaule with Lilisette. Certain people within the group attempt to tell the others that the adventurer and Lilisette have come to this time from the future. They laugh this off but Ragelise appears, saying that they need all the help they can get, and asks the adventurer to accompany him into the village to aid with extracting locals and setting up fortifications. Fires engulf some of the buildings in the village and Ahrimans and demons appear, killing soldiers and some of the civilians. In the confusion, Lilisette sees Cait Sith atop one of the burning houses but she disappears before the adventurer can make heads or tails of her appearance.
A knight arrives and whisks the adventurer off to safety while Ragelise and his knights are fighting for their lives. With heavy losses, the knights triumph over the dark kindred. A commander appears, asking the adventurer where they and the dancers are. Ragelise explains that one of his soldiers came to guide them to safety. The commander says that no knight under that name exists. Ragelise, realizing that there must be some sort of deception, rushes to find them. When he catches up to the adventurer, a trap is sprung: Haudrale, the false knight, has led the group into an ambush with three demons arriving to attack the adventurer.
Ragelise arrives shouting for Portia and dispatching two of the demons while the adventurer handles the third. Ragelise attacks the traitorous knight who deflects his blow with dark energy. The adventurer sees a figure in purple clothing charging a ball of energy and firing it at Ragelise, hitting him directly. The strange figure then appears next to the traitorous knight who reveals himself to be a similar being clad in purple. He calls himself a spitewarden of Lady Lilith. The spitewarden summons a dragon to attack the group. The adventurer defends the group and defeats the dragon. After killing its minion, the spitewardens flee for the battlefield emitting a blinding flash of light.
Lilisette enters a trance, seeing the darkened Walk of Echoes. A mirror-like portal shows her images of the world devastated by war. Lilisette comes back to the battlefield, but it is empty. The spitewardens disappear and she faints. When she regains consciousness, the group is in a safe spot and Ragelise has collapsed due to the pain from the dark aura surrounding his wound. Lilisette stands and calls out to him calling him her father. To everyone's shock, she insists that no one moves him. She insists that the group return to the village to seek medical aid for him. There she finally comes clean, telling the adventurer that she is also a time-traveling adventurer, and that Ragelise is her father. In several years time, the curse from the wound he just received will cause him to fall ill and eventually die. Lilisette heard about the cavernous maws and traveled back with the intention of stopping him from getting the wound. However, the events she learned about in the history books and her father's journals are not unfolding in the way that they should be.
Meanwhile, in the darkened Walk of Echoes, Cait Sith is surrounded by other Cait Siths. Multiple Cait Siths make plans to monitor Lilisette before going their separate ways. The adventurer returns to one of the outer nations that they have been working for to accomplish more assignments. After they return to San d'Oria, Mayakov informs them that Portia and Lilisette are visiting Ragelise. He notes that they have been doing so with increased frequency since he was wounded in La Vaule. As the adventurer speaks to Ragelise, his wound flares up with the dark aura. He asks the adventurer not to speak of this with anyone to save the morale of his soldiers. Portia informs the adventurer that Lilisette mentioned heading to Jugner Forest, where the adventurer finds her setting a trap for Cait Sith. After one appears, it springs the trap, capturing the cat. As Lilisette interrogates the cat, another Cait Sith appears followed by many more until the adventurer and Lilisette are surrounded.
The caits discuss what they should do, alluding to the end goal of their mission being helping all of the children of Altana. They vote whether they should aid Lilisette in her quest and are split down the middle, saying that instead of interfering, they should make the adventurer and Lilisette aware of a nearby item. They reveal the item to be a special type of resin, which can be used as a potent medicine with a mysterious voice chiming in: Aquila, the spitewarden whom they encountered earlier in La Vaule. The caits scatter after realizing one of the spitewarden were among them. Two are struck by an attack from Aquila, killing them. As Aquila prepares to confront the adventurer, a voice rings out and commands him to return to wherever he came from.
After the confrontation, the adventurer and Lilisette go to present day San d'Oria to speak to the family friend of Lilisette who used to prepare her father's medicine. The plants used as the main ingredient have gone extinct, but they go back to the past to harvest them for the medicine. After returning, the medicine woman finishes the recipe and gives them a bottle of the coveted medicine. With a vial in hand, they make for the Chateau to find Ragelise. They find the injured knight in a meeting with the ambassador of Jeuno, Nag'molada, who reveals that the Duchy of Jeuno intends to surrender to the beastmen. Ragelise leaves the meeting to speak to the king to stop this from happening. Nag'molada approaches Portia, demanding that she come with him back to Jeuno. After she declines, he does not press her further, but says that her accompanying him would be of paramount importance. With Ragelise needing rest, the adventurer and Lilisette offer to take the request of reinforcements to Bastok and Windurst on his behalf. They travel to Bastok and Windurst to draw support before going to Jeuno. This is done to persuade the Duchy not to surrender.
They meet with Brandolf, the captain of the ducal guard who informs them that Nag'molada is away from the Duchy on official business. The adventurer and Lilisette inform him of the reinforcements and tell him that Jeuno need no longer consider surrender. He informs them that they are too late and that the archduke has already made up his mind to surrender to the beastmen. Nag'molada appears, telling the adventurer and Lilisette that the surrender ceremony is to be held soon, and leaves. Certain members of the ducal guard catch up to the adventurer and Lilisette, giving them a key to the area where the surrender is to take place.
These soldiers thank them for rekindling their fighting spirit. Arriving early to the surrender ceremony, Lisette incapacitates orcish fighters before Nag'molada apprehends her. Reinforcements arrive and they begin fighting the orcs as well. After the battle, Nag'molada appears, making some cryptic remarks and disappearing right before second Nag'molada appears, explaining that he was indeed away on business. They surmise that the impostor, the first Nag'molada who made the trip to San'd Oria, was one of the spitewardens.
The caits float above the beastmen who flee from Jeuno. They begin speaking about the beastmen's new _target, Tavnazia. After their conversation, the caits leave except for one: Cait Sith Sia. She is killed by Aquila. Accompanying Aquila is the impostor Nag'molada, who reveals himself to be Haudrale, the spitewarden in disguise. Along with them was Cait Sith Ceither, acting as a double agent for the spitewardens. They allude to Lilisette being present in this timeline having some kind of importance before reaffirming their mission: securing the matron person and eliminating the other caits. When the spitewardens arrive at the Walk of Echoes, a dark cloud erupts from the massive orifice in the sky. A glowing ball of energy floats down to the ground before erupting to reveal Lady Lilith as the spitewardens bow to her.
Dancers in Distress
The adventurer travels back to their nation to complete several more assignments. After returning to San d'Oria, the adventurer runs into Lilisette. She explains that something has happened to the memories of several people and takes the adventurer to the rest of troupe Mayakov who does not remember her or the adventurer. The memories of these people have been wiped out and the adventurer sees a small orb of energy being pulled from each of them as they leave. Mayakov and Portia still remember the adventurer, Mayakov informing the adventurer and Lilisette that the spitewardens have been spotted in the north and allows them to head that way. They are introduced to Noillurie, who has been tasked to ensure Ragelise's recovery. Portia is bothered by this as Noillurie is infatuated with Ragelise.
The group heads for Beaucedine Glacier where the spitewardens were last seen. As the group arrives, a Cait Sith falls from the sky. Lilisette tells about the memories of the people fading and Cait Sith reacts badly to this news, saying that there must be a traitor among the other caits. She ponders if the group are truly the heroes spoken about in the prophecy and asks them to help her out in finding the traitor. She gives the adventurer, Lilisette, and Portia the task of attaching shadow bugs to the remaining caits to track their movements.
After they place the shadow bugs on the remaining caits and watch for suspicious behavior, Cait Sith Naoi tells the adventurer her backstory. There exists a realm in which Altana, possessed of boundless love, lamented the great Crystal War. Her grief was so strong that the land itself trembled. She wished to see the world tread a different path, one of peace. So, she created the caits, agents of her will to ensure that these events unfolded in the correct way, in time creating a more peaceful outcome.
After the explanation, the group sees Cait Sith Ceithir on the move and heads back out to track their destination. Upon finding him, the group discovers a meeting between Cait Sith Ceithir and the spitewarden named Larzos. While trying to eavesdrop on the meeting, the group is spotted and confronted by the Cait Sith Ceithir and Larzos, who summons a demon. Once the group defeats the demons, the adventurer sees the memories leave the demon and be consumed, just as what happened with the dancers who had forgotten Lilisette earlier. An avalanche interrupts the battle with the spitewarden and Cait Sith Ceithir. Lilisette and Portia are encased in a barrier by an ahriman who then escapes while kidnapping both of them.
Lilisette and Portia are taken to the Walk of Echoes. They are moved into a chamber with the dark matron from before who insults Lilisette before telling Portia that she is welcome to join her cause. She offers Portia's deepest desire to her: to save Ragelise from his dark wound. The matron has Portia and Lilisette thrown into a dungeon.
After the adventurer escapes the Beaucedine Glacier, they make for San d'Oria to meet with Ragelise. The adventurer explains what happened in Beaucedine to him and Noillurie enters and commits to going to Beaucedine in his stead as he should be resting. With Ragelise sidelined, the adventurer heads back to Beaucedine to find the forces of San d'Oria as the battle against the orcs rages on. Cait Sith Naoi attempts to locate Portia and Lilisette and finds that they are in an underground cave not too far away. With the forces of San d'Oria keeping the beastmen busy, the adventurer and Cait Sith Naoi make their way through the cave and find Portia and Lilisette in a trap set for them. Cait Sith Ceithir appears and tells them that the future is determined, not by Altana and her wishes, but by Atomos whom they summoned to the cave. Atomos is the creature whose gaping mouth is visible from the Walk of Echoes, and its projections are the cavernous maws that have been appearing across Vana'diel.
Atomos devours Portia. As it tries to devour the remainder of the group, the power of Altana resonates within the adventurer and Lilisette, manifesting as wings. Like the prophecy foretold, the caits, realizing that the adventurer and Lilisette are indeed the heroes of prophecy, sacrifice themselves, being devoured by the Atomos. The power of all the caits unify, and a giant Cait Sith emerges from the mouth of Atomos before shrinking back down to a normal size. With the power of the unified Cait Sith, the adventurer and Lilisette defeat Cait Sith Ceithir. Before leaving, the defeated Atomos springs back to life, absorbing all of the group and dropping them into the Walk of Echoes.
They encounter Lady Lilith who kills Cait Sith Ceithir for failing her. Behind them, Portia is being held by the spitewardens. Lady Lilith reveals that Atomos has existed since time immemorial, devouring any time that it deemed as dispensable and depositing it here the Walk of Echoes. Cait Sith knows all of this, having set these time-traveling events in motion in the first place. Portia runs back towards Lilith after she reaffirms her claims to heal Ragelise and they prepare to leave. Lilith calls Portia mother. Unable to accept this loss, Lilisette jumps after Lilith and the spitewardens who disappear as they blast the adventurer and Lilisette away with powerful energies.
After regaining their bearings, they find themselves back in Beaucedine surrounded by the bodies of beastmen and allies alike. The adventurer, Lilisette, and Cait Sith make for San d'Oria to inform Ragelise of Portia's capture. Upon hearing the news it would seem that Ragelise's memory has been taken as well, not recognizing the adventurer or Lilisette, and hesitating talking about Portia with them. A mysterious knight approaches Ragelise to inform him about Portia too. Ragelise grows distraught after hearing the news from a credible source. After the group discusses what they know of Lady Lilith, they come to believe that Lilith must be from a future where the Crystal War never ended.
The group realizes the upcoming battle of Xarcabard is where Lilith will make her next play. In both timelines, the war was decided by the outcome of this battle. The adventurer, Lilisette, and Cait Sith head for Juno where the Allied Forces conduct their strategy meeting. They learn of Ragelise's important position in the battle along with the plan of attack.
They decide to gather additional information on how the battle played out by traveling to present time to speak with survivors. As the group arrives in present-day San d'Oria, a strange scene occurs with day turning to night and a massive comet hurtling towards Vana'diel before it flashing away. No one saw the vision except for the adventurer and Lilisette. They meet with Halver who reveals that Ragelise's entire unit is to be wiped out in the battle. He recalls a man who visits Ragelise's grave and tells them to seek him out. The adventurer and Lilisette go to Ragelise's grave and find that the visitor is Larzos whom the adventurer and Lilisette know as a spitewarden, but in this timeline, he is just a normal veteran of the war. He tells the adventurer that as they stormed the keep, a huge clouded star appeared overhead. Ragelise had a disturbed look on his face but all the beastmen lay dead at their feet. With the battle to fight, they moved on, not asking any questions. He mentions that Ragelise once spoke of a quiet pride in refusing a pact with darkness that day.
After traveling back to the past, the group gathers with the Allied Forces and prepares for battle. Lady Lilith and her spitewardens meet with the Shadow Lord and his minion, Flit. They tell the Shadow Lord that they know how this battle plays out and offer an alliance to fight back against the Allied Forces. The Shadow Lord accepts.
The Battle of Xarcabard
The adventurer and Lilisette receive word that the operation is greenlit; the Battle of Xarcabard has officially begun. After helping Windurst and Bastok with their tasks, the group reports back to the San d'Orian front. They tell Ragelise of the success of the other two operations. The Larzos of the past appears and hands an object that he found to Ragelise: a link pearl which Portia, who is still being held hostage by the spitewardens, is using to communicate. Upon hearing her voice, Ragelise loses his composure as Portia tells him not to come to the castle. Ragelise decides to storm the castle despite the plans the Allied Forces had established, leaving his lieutenant in charge of the front forces. Lady Lilith, who is watching from the Walk of Echoes, is pleased that Ragelise has fallen for her trap.
The group along with Ragelise charge the castle. Ragelise is realizing that there are too few enemies, intuiting this was a set up. They find Portia in a circle of dark energy, and as they approach, a demon appears to defend her.
Outside the castle, the Shadow Lord enters the fray, decimating the Allied Force in a full-on frontal assault. Without Ragelise, operational leader, the Allied Forces could not respond to the threat in time. A strange rift appears above for those inside the castle, flaring up Ragelise and Portia's wounds, incapacitating them. The adventurer and Lilisette defeat the demons but Haudrale takes Portia back before they can save her. Portia threatens to end her own life, knowing only that she is important to Lady Lilith's plans. Before she can, Noillurie reappears with some additional comrades. With their reinforcements, they escape the castle.
They witness the devastation of the Shadow Lord's appearance on the battlefield. Atomos beginning to devour en masse flares their wounds while also summoning orbs of energy from the bodies of the dead, gathering into a large ball, which Lilith offers up to Atomos. Cait Sith tries to bargain with Atomos, reminding the avatar of Altana's wishes. This proves fruitless, leading her to give up and search for the adventurer and Lilisette.
The Allied Forces return to Jeuno where Ragelise is stripped of his military authority by the remaining leaders and banished. Seen as a disgraced traitor, he discusses with Portia and ominously states that the only way for him to accomplish his goal of making things right is to gain more power. The adventurer and Lilisette surmise that they will return to Castle Zvahl for answers, and after reuniting with Cait Sith, they chase after Ragelise and Portia.
Once they arrive, Portia and Ragelise demand to know more about the pact of darkness Lady Lilith is offering them, which could allow them to keep fighting despite their wounds. She recites an altered version of the prophecy Cait Sith has presented to the adventurer and Lilisette, but calls herself the maiden of dusk, the center of the peace. Lady Lilith explains everything just as the adventurer, Lilisette, and Cait Sith arrive: in a thousand timelines the Allied Forces lose the Crystal War every time. She tells the adventurer that their future, where they win, is a dream of Altana that she wishes could come to pass. In reality, the Allied Forces amassed and attacked Xarcabard where they were nearly obliterated by the Shadow Lord. From this crippling defeat, the Dark Forces spread out, taking over the neighboring continents and eventually subjugating the entire world. The survivors bid their time and grew stronger so that one day they could rise up and retake their lands. Lady Lilith is indeed the leader of this rebellion force opposing the Shadow Lord. Cait Sith reveals that to defeat the Shadow Lord, Lady Lilith and her people made a pact with the Dark Divinity, Odin, and became the very thing they sought to destroy, grieving the state of the world.
Altana wept and her tears became the caits who eventually summoned Atomos, traveling through different timelines planting seeds to create a different future for Vana'diel. The spitewardens and Lady Lilith learned of this plan and began traveling through the timelines, dismantling the progress the caits were making to defend their own timeline, as whichever was the least likely would eventually be consumed by Atomos forever.
As the adventurer and Lilisette ponder Lady Lilith's explanation, Odin finally makes his appearance. His flames encircle Portia and Ragelise who form a pact with the dark avatar and bear his Mark in their wounds. Lady Lilith reveals that she is the daughter of Ragelise and Portia in her own future, an alternate version of Lilisette who is the couple's daughter in the adventurer's timeline. The adventurer and Lilisette defeat the two spitewardens, Aquila and Haudrale, before returning with the others just in time to see Odin disappear. Seeing that two spitewardens have fallen, Lady Lilith summons the adventurer from her timeline, revealing them to be her final spitewarden. When Lilisette sees that her parents have been taken, she loses faith in what Cait Sith had told and is consumed by Atomos. The dark future has won and Lilisette has ceased to exist.
Maiden of the Dusk
After Lady Lilith's victory, the adventurer and Cait Sith return to San d'Oria. Cait Sith tells the adventurer that things are changing in history, events unfolding in ways they never have before since Lilisette was consumed. They go to listen in on the Mayakov troupe and hear them refer to Portia, not Lilisette, as the Moonshade butterfly, showing the adventurer just how extensive this change has been.
Cait Sith asks that the adventurer head back to the north to see how the battle with the alliance is going. The adventurer arrives seeing total devastation among the Allied Forces. Lady Lilith appears, explaining the folly of the war and how fruitless their efforts will be. Her and the spitewardens vanish. Cait Sith and the adventurer discuss the only option they have left: they must track down the fragments of Lilisette's existence inside the cavernous maw of Atomos and restore her. After traveling back to the Walk of Echoes, they ask Atomos for a way to bring Lilisette back. They are attacked by Larzos, the spitewarden. Cait Sith sends the adventurer flying in defense, telling them to find all of Lilisette's memories, her fragments of existence, and bring them together to force Atomos to restore her.
The adventurer travels around San d'Oria and several other locations gathering memories of Lilisette that linger in the world as people are slowly reminded of her existence. The adventurer returns to the Walk of Echoes through the cavernous maw and shows Cait Sith the collected memories of Lilisette that drift slowly up to Atomos. A massive beam of light erupts from the gaping hole and pierces into the real world. The adventurer rushes to the location they think the beam fell. A group of pixies native to the area tells the adventurer that someone new has just arrived. Presuming this to be Lilisette, the adventurer rushes to their side to find an egg which contains the maturing existence of Lilisette.
After some time Cait Sith sends the adventurer to find a rare insect called a punch bug. The adventurer returns and she bottles it, giving it to the adventurer and explaining that it will act as a bridge of sorts between the adventurer and memories of the future, which should bolster their ability to fight against the dark, giving the adventurer a slight edge in the fight to come. With this new weapon in hand the adventurer and Cait Sith travel back to the Walk of Echo where they confront the spitewardens, including the dark reflection of the adventurer. The group defeats the spitewardens and the dark adventurer dissipates while Larzos scoops up Portia and Ragelise, taking them to safety and then dying. Lilisette returns from the egg and is reunited with the adventurer and Cait Sith.
After some preparations, the adventurer, Lilisette, and Cait Sith return to the Walk of Echoes. They confront Lilith and defeat her. As Lilisette approaches, Lady Lilith springs back and shoves her hand through Lilisette's chest, pulling out the essence of her existence. She absorbs this before wrapping herself and Lilisette in her wings, merging them and becoming something new: Lilith Ascendant, a unification of these dark and light energies and her two alternate personalities. After a fierce battle, the adventurer and Cait Sith triumph once again. This new body begins to split right before both halves, Lilisette and Lilith, are consumed by Atomos who now sees that both futures, dark and light, are equally unlikely, and begins consuming everything. It becomes overwhelmed and regurgitates all the memories it had consumed back into the respective worlds.
In her final moments, Lady Lilith tells Lilisette that their only hope is for Lilisette to travel to the dark future and seal off the cavernous maws from that timeline. She asks that Lilisette take up her mantle as Lady Lilith, leading her people, those Lady Lilith loves, to a bright future. The adventurer and Lilisette share a heartfelt farewell before she dives through the mouth of Atomos to seal off the dark future, leaving the adventurer to seal Atomos in Lilisette's timeline to ensure that both timelines can coexist. Cait Sith tells the adventurer that with her mission complete, she chooses to leave the adventurer as the guardian of the future and departs.
The adventurer meets up with Mayakov who does not remember Lilisette. This signifies that her choice to travel to the dark timeline removed her memory from everyone. Mayakov informs the adventurer that Ragelise has been reinstated as a knight and that the wedding date for him and Portia has been set. The adventurer travels to Jeuno to see the ceremony. At the party, the adventurer learns that Ragelise and Portia awoke in San d'Oria with no memory of anything that had happened. They possessed a note telling them to thank both the adventurer and Lilisette. They discussed the name, Lilisette, deciding it would make a great name for a child.
Music
Wings of the Goddess introduces new music for battles and areas featured in the expansion. All tracks are composed and arranged by Naoshi Mizuta, with many of them being gradually introduced together with version updates.
With Wings of the Goddess installed, the track "Wings of the Goddess" replaces "Vana'diel March" in the title screen. It reverts to the original title screen music after it fully plays once.
Three tracks introduced towards the end of the Wings of the Goddess story - "Summers Lost", "Goddess Divine", and "Everlasting Bonds", are not included in the Original Soundtrack, but have since been included in the Final Fantasy XI Original Soundtrack - Plus.
Additionally, of the two tracks released together with the final chapter of Voidwatch, only one, "Provenance Watcher", has been officially released in Sword Songs: Final Fantasy XI Battle Collection as a bonus track. The other remains unreleased.
