Instantly kills opponentDescription

Flash is a command ability in Final Fantasy VII granted by the Slash-All Materia at level 2, replacing the Attack command on the wearer. When used in battle, the corresponding character will dash into the enemy's side of the battlefield and make a head-on attack attempt to inflict Instant Death on all enemies. Flash replaces the basic Slash-All ability when the Materia is leveled up to level 2.

Use

Cid and Red XIII using Flash.

Flash has the user rush headlong into the enemy's side of the field, an iridescent line tracing their steps, and perform a special attack and pose in a victorious fashion, which sometimes the camera will position to capture.

  • Cloud winds up a diagonal slash from right to left.
  • Tifa performs a front kick into a dashing straight punch with her right fist.
  • Barret performs a wind-up punch with his left fist.
  • Aeris rushes in clumsily yet courageously to strike with a downward bash.
  • Red XIII rushes in head first, giving the impression he is attacking with his fangs.
  • Yuffie performs a downward slash akin to her Greased Lightning Limit.
  • Cait Sith commands his robot Mog to rush in and hammer down with a haymaker.
  • Vincent rushes forward and positions himself with his gun-wielding arm lowered, implying he has attacked upclose with a quick draw technique.
  • Cid lunges in a forward thrust attack with his spear.

If successful, foes will have their damage read as Death, and instead of "deleting" into red, will turn transparent and ascend into the sky. If not successful, foes will have their damage read Miss. If the foe is undead, their damage will read Recovery and they are fully restored.

Flash replaces the basic Attack command when a LV2+ Slash-All is equipped. It launches a single attack, regardless of row, which attempts to instantly kill all enemies on the opposing party. Flash can instantly clear enemies that are not immune to Instant Death, quickly ending fights even faster than the basic Slash-All ability. The attack itself can be likened as a "lighter" version of Odin's Zantetsuken, but with greater drawbacks.

Flash's success is independent of the user's stats: its success rate is the equipped weapon's Attack% halved. This means it should be given to characters with weapons that have a high Attack% accuracy. Tifa's God's Hand and Vincent's Sniper CR both have 255 Attack%, making both characters excellent choices.

Because the attacker's Defense% also heavily contributes to the chance of a physical-based attack connecting, Flash has a greater chance of connecting with the Mystile equipped, an armor piece with the best Def%.

The main drawback to Flash is that the Instant Death it applies is not guaranteed to work, and many enemies are immune to Instant Death. If used on some undead enemies, Flash recovers them fully. Players may prefer the basic Slash-All ability and equip a lower-level Slash-All Materia (which can be obtained by mastering the first one), or simply use Mega All. If a character has a level 1 and level 2 Slash-All Materia equipped, the one found last in the equipment will determine which is used (left is the lowest priority, right is the highest, and all armor slots being a higher-priority than weapon slots).

Flash is not compatible with any Support Materia.
