Sephiroth is a temporary party member in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth during the flashback sequence of the Nibelheim Incident. He wields the Masamune and his equipment and materia cannot be changed.

Battle

Sephiroth is a temporary party member in Cloud Strife's flashback. His combat style is extremely aggressive, with powerful combos of strikes and finishers. He has both a regular melee attack and a ranged magic attack, and can warp instantly in any direction.

By landing normal attacks on enemies, Sephiroth fills his Aura Charge gauge that allows him to use new moves that can be chained into his combos. The choice of move is determined based on Sephiroth's previous action. The default move available after Aura Charge is filled is Pierce, a quick rushing stab attack that can close the gap between Sephiroth and his _target. It can also increase the enemy's stagger damage % bonus. After landing an attack, Sephiroth can use Sword Dance, an evasive attack where he slashes while leaping backwards. Telluric Fury can be used as a combo finisher after four uninterrupted attacks. Shift Slash can be used immediately after warping, while Skyshatter can be used while Sephiroth is in midair.

Instead of guarding, Sephiroth enters his Retaliation Stance that allows him to parry and counter attacks.

Equipment

Sephiroth's equipment cannot be changed at any point in the game. Sephiroth is equipped with his signature katana, Masamune, a Resplendent Bracer, and a Fortitude Ring.

Abilities

Sephiroth's unique abilities are the same abilities he used as a boss fight in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Zanshin launches waves of energy at enemies, and can be followed up with Zanshin Rising, which adds an extra wave of energy. When using Hell's Gate, Sephiroth will leap into the air before descending to the ground and impaling an enemy. Following up with Infernal Gate will create an explosion of energy after Sephiroth lands.

Synergy

Double Helix Synergy Ability FFVII Rebirth
Sephiroth during his Double Helix synergy ability

When Cloud is the active party member, he can use the Synergy skills Counterfire and Voidshatter alongside Cloud. When Sephiroth is the active party member, he can pair up with Cloud for the Synergy skill Dualblade Dance.

Cloud and Sephiroth have the Synergy ability Double Helix, where Sephiroth unleashes an elegant flurry of strikes and Cloud does his best to follow suit. This raises Cloud’s limit level and gives Sephiroth unlimited MP.

Materia

His Materia are mastered Revive, Healing, Fire paired with Magnify, Ice paired with Magnify, Lightning paired with Magnify, and Wind.

Limit Breaks

Sephiroth only has one limit break: Octaslash, which attacks an opponent with a lightning-fast flurry of eight powerful strikes. Sephiroth's limit break, like his unique abilities, can be followed up with Octaslash Prime, which adds a powerful finisher after the completion of Octaslash.
