Sing (うたう, Utau?) is used by the Bard job class in Final Fantasy III. In the original Famicom version, it attacks the enemy with the currently equipped harp, possibly inflicting a status effect depending on the harp. In both 3D Remake and Pixel Remaster versions, Sing will always be performed as the first action of each turn.

3D remake

In the 3D remake version, each of the harps gives a different song to sing: most of them support the whole party with protective spells, and one deals damage to all enemies.

The effects of Minne, Minuet, and Elegy last for two turns, and the same effects do not stack.

Song Harp Required Description
Minne Madhura Harp Increases Defense and Magic Defense on all party members. Formula:
Recipient's Defense + (20 + Recipient's JobLv / 11)%
Minuet Loki Harp Increases Attack on all party members. Formula:
Recipient's Attack + (20 + Recipient's JobLv / 11)%
Requiem Lamia Harp Damages all enemies based on their current HP. Formula:
Damage Inflicted = Enemy's Current HP x (10 + JobLv / 11)%
Paeon Dream Harp Restores all party members based on their max HP. Formula:
HP Recovery = Recipient's Max HP x (10 + JobLv / 11)%
Elegy Apollo Harp Reduces damage taken on all party members. Formula:
Original Damage - (20 + Recipient's JobLv / 11)%

Pixel Remaster

In the Pixel Remaster, songs are not tied to harps but learned by the Bard at certain job levels.

The effects of Minuet and Elegy last for two turns, and the same effects do not stack. Paeon heals the party's HP at the same formula as the 3D remake versions. Requiem attempts to inflict Sleep, Blind, Confuse, and Paralyze at random to all enemies.

Song Job Level Description
Paeon 1 Restores HP to the entire party.
Minuet 10 Increases the entire party's attack power and intellect.
Elegy 20 Decreases damage taken by the entire party.
Requiem 30 Causes a randomized status ailment to all enemies.
