Tri-Point is a boss in Final Fantasy VIII. Encountered in Ultimecia Castle's Wine Cellar, it is one of the Ultimecia's eight minions that must be defeated to unlock the seals placed on the party.

In the game's western releases Siren can be drawn from Tri-Point if the player did not draw it from Elvoret earlier.

Stats

  1. 1.0 1.1 Tri-Point is very weak against either Fire or Ice. Once Tri-Point is hit with an element it is very weak against, it swaps weakness to the other element.

How to find

Ultimecia Castle Wine Cellar entrance from FFVIII Remastered

The player needs to step on the chandelier (behind where the first boss Sphinxaur is fought), and it will crash down onto the floor below. This makes the entrance to the wine cellar available.

Battle

FFVIII Mega Spark
Mega Spark.

Once the battle initiates the Boss will say:

'USING ELEMENTAL ATTACKS.'
'WHATEVER I DON'T USE, I DON'T LIKE.'

Tri-Point will counter with Mega Spark unless it is hit with an element it is very weak against. If Tri-Point uses Scan on a _target, the _target will be hit with Onrush the next turn. It is a massive, inevitable attack that ignores defense, often dealing 9,999 HP damage.

Strategy

To find out Tri-Point's weakness, the player must scan it to know if it is weak against either Fire or Ice. If it is weak against Fire, the party must use a Fire attack, which prompts Tri-Point to be weak against Ice, of which the party must then respond with an Ice attack. Alternatively, since Mega Spark is Thunder-elemental, if it is possible to junction the characters' Elem=def-J to negate or absorb Mega Spark.

It may be useful to use Protect on the scanned character to mitigate the damage from Onrush. The scanned character can also use Defend, or the character in the middle of the party formation could have Cover. The party can also use Kamikaze for an easy win.

Triple Triad

TTTriPoint

Tri-Point is a Level 7 Boss Card in Triple Triad used for playing the minigame and for turning into Jet Engine (40:1) with Quezacotl's Card Mod. At it takes a whopping 40 cards to make one Jet Engine, however, the player will not meet the requirement without a serious grind. Tri-Point is a rare outcome for a successful carding of a Belhelmel or a Torama.
