GTA Wiki requires an active group of users to act as Staff.

You may apply for Patroller rights or Administrator/Bureaucrat privileges on this noticeboard. To do so, you must meet the prerequisites, and then state what position you are looking for and why you think you need the rollback and/or administrator tools.

Requests for Checkuser and Revision Delete must be done at Community Central (and they will probably be declined).

Requests for Demotion (RfD) may also be posted here. Please see Demotion Rules for instructions on how to deal with Demotion posts in the correct manner.

What are Staff roles?

Main article: GTA Wiki:Staff

There are three different Staff rights. Members of these rights have different powers and are trusted to use them responsibly.

Patrollers

Patrollers are given the Rollback tool. This allows users to quickly revert vandalism with the click of a button. They are also given the ability to edit protected pages. Patrollers are also trusted to issue out Warnings to users who do not comply with the Policy, as well as manage posts made in Discussions.

Administrators

Administrators are given the Moderator power and are able to:

  • Ban users.
  • Delete pages and files.
  • Access the Admin Dashboard features:
    • View the wiki's Statistics and Wiki Analytics.
    • Create and post Announcements.
    • Edit protected pages and MediaWiki related pages.
    • Edit the wiki theme and design.
Bureaucrat

Bureaucrats are given the Bureaucrat power. In addition to the Moderator power abilities, Bureaucrats are able to promote and demote users, excluding other bureaucrats. As senior members of the wiki, they are also able to close promotion and demotion requests and are able to make decisions on whether requests are appropriate or necessary.

How does one qualify?

Patroller

Typically, individuals meeting the qualifications for Patrollers will have already received unanimous appointment of rollback rights, provided there is mutual agreement from an Administrator or Bureaucrat.

Users may also submit an application for the Patroller role if they believe their activity demonstrates consistency and their contributions are of high quality. In this case, there is no community vote, and the application is either accepted or rejected by Administrators or Bureaucrats.

Administrator

To qualify for administrator rights, editors must have been active Patrollers for four months with no rule violations.

Administrators must receive a 70% 'yes' percentage to be promoted. Those applying for administrator will likely be asked questions on how they deal with certain situations. This is to see if a user has the capabilities of being an administrator.

Editors with rollback and administrator experience on other wikis are encouraged to apply, and based on the editor in question exceptions may be made to the length of time editing required for promotion.

When applying for promotion, a community vote will take place. Voting lasts 7 days, although it may be allowed to run shorter (in the case of an obvious pass/fail) or longer (in the case of a very close vote) at bureaucrat discretion. Only bureaucrats should close votes.

So I told myself when I resumed activity at the beginning of last year that I would not consider becoming bcrat for the foreseeable. Well, apparently, the foreseeable was a grand total of 22 months!

Short backstory: I was Bureaucrat here from 2016-2019, retiring due to loss of interest in the GTA series. After several years of hiatus, I regained my interest back in 2022 and decided to step back up as Administrator in 2023. Since then, I've made some huge changes around here, including revamping the entire MOS, reworking the wiki's theme, templates, template documentation, restructuring articles, updating images, keeping on top of GTA Online content from the last couple years, and, perhaps most noticeably, conducting and managing a clear standardization for upcoming GTA VI content. All of the aforementioned template and MOS changes are in effort to ensure a smooth(er) ride once GTA VI launches next year.

With ongoing final year studies at university, I predicted to be a lot busier and thus wouldn't have time to contribute here, however, I've been managing fine for the past couple years. That will probably change in the final semester, but I don't think it will massively impact my contributions or ability to engage. I'm still extremely active on Discord when I'm not editing on the wiki directly. Moreover, I still have a lot of plans and a lot of work to do regarding MOS overhauls and other ongoing projects, so I definitely wanna stick around to continue them.

Anyway, life story over, I'm applying for Bureaucrat because of green name perks xO.

Hi! I am AzureImpactGerdaErrorMaking245! I want to become an Administrator because I look forward to helping! I am extremely good at GTA despite being a kid, NOTE: I am 14. I make a lot of post on this wiki. I have improved my behavior on this wiki and since, IDK What to do, why not become an Administrator? I commented on a GTA Video and it got 300 Likes. I think I am in it! I have played GTA since 2022 and I have been on veiwing this wiki since 2022.   • It is quite obvious why you are getting only no votes. I will try and explain it to you, just so that it is clearer. It may be a bit difficult to take in, but you are just asking for a reality check.
First of all, your request. You weren't even able to adhere to the most basic requirements. You did not give it a proper title, you did not sign your request, and most likely did not even read over the required qualifications, as it is quite clear you have never been a staff member before. And being able to comprehend and apply rules is imperative for such a position. Moreover, the content of the request... Did you not scroll down below to see how other people who applied actually put in a lot of effort within their request and way before it? Do you really think your application is adequate? It is basically a paragraph (which is poorly written, being filled with grammatical errors) in which you claim that you do not really want to be too involved (and it goes to show, your number of edits is not very impressive). Not to mention your motivation for the position: "since IDK what to do". Yeah, when I get bored and don't know what to do, I think I'll apply to be president of NATO.
Secondly, your user page. The fact that you decided to write your own set of rules, in which you claim that you cannot get punished, is quite peculiar. That just goes to show that you are a self-entitled kid who thinks the world revolves around him and that you cannot be held accountable for any of your misdeeds. Immaturity is not a trait of a proper staff member. And this has nothing to do with your age. I've seen people of your age who are more mature.
I hope I did manage to get my point across, even though it may be a bit hard to accept criticism. Now it is up to you to decide whether you can indeed improve yourself for a potential future position, or you are simply not willing to be dedicated enough for a role in the staff team and the responsibilities it comes with. The Wiki's Official Policy that you have at least 4 or 5 accounts of incivility, harassment, user page vandalism (on the Wiki itself and the Discussion Forums), and clearly intending to become an admin to "claim ownership"? Or that laughable list of "rules" from your own user page that you created because you personally object to GTA Online?

TheLuca2001 - Administrator

Hello there! My name is Luca. I suppose a lot of you around here already know me, as we most likely interacted on the GTA Wiki Discord. So here I am, trying my luck with an Administrator application. Why did I come here? I guess it was the weather. I have been a Patroller for well over 6 months, and truth be told, I was not thinking of applying for this position so soon, but Monky's kind words encouraged me to take this step.

I first made an account here back in 2011. I had some good contributions here and there, but my activity was not exactly the best. I then had an activity boost in late 2021, when I made some major edits to the Empire Building page, as well as pages concerning North Point Mall shops and GTA Vice City Stories races. My activity then dropped again, until May 2023, when I once again started being active, until the end of July. I then went quiet until the start of September, and since then... my activity has been quite stable. I unexpectedly became a Patroller on the 13th of November, and have worked hard (according to Monky, I personally feel I could have done more) since then.

Aside from what I've already mentioned, I also documented the colours and statistics of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories vehicles (which have been missing for a really long time from the Wiki). I have mostly been tidying content under various forms (as studies can be a bit overwhelming and do not always give me enough time to make more detailed edits), however I do look forward to using my spare time during my holidays in order to start working on projects of a larger size. I would like to specifically focus on: documenting special vehicles, dialogues, writing transcripts, as well as replacing old, cropped photos with ones of better quality (yes, that includes some of my very own pictures). The 3D Universe titles are my main focus, with GTA IV and its episodes being a secondary focus. And, of course, being able to delete unused images/pages and to punish reckless users without relying on someone else would not hurt.

Matrexpingvin - Bureaucrat

Welp, here we are. After almost three years of joking I would apply for bureaucrat at 88,000 edits, the impeccably timed and unexpected resignation/self-demotion of two bureaucrats have made that possible, so I have decided to apply for the final vacant position.

I've been playing Grand Theft Auto games since... around 2008-ish, and it is now my 2nd favourite game series. My first experience with this Wiki, however, was back in January 2016, when I randomly decided to upload an image of a Dominator and got unofficially warned for violating the media policy by TAlim. I continued editing the Wiki here and there, but I became far more active following the 2018 After Hours update for GTA Online, which is also when I started regularly playing the game. After creating an unholy number of missing event week articles and generally having quality edits, Monk suggested I apply for a Patroller position. Despite my best efforts to sabotage my own application by accidentally removing the votes and comments for TAlim's Bureaucrat request, I became a Patroller in January 2019, without probation. After only five months as an orange, I decided to apply for an Administrator position, which got unanimously approved. I have now held this position for over four years.

For those not familiar with what I do, my main focus on the Wiki is general housekeeping. I skim through the Recent Activity page most days and change anything that needs correcting. This general housekeeping also includes standardising the gallery parameters, adding WP, WC and Clr templates, changing sections to title case, and other small changes. There are also bigger projects I was/am involved in, mostly having to do with GTA Online since this is the only title I regularly play; I used to create event week articles, I am currently the one adding car mod images to any newly released vehicles, I sometimes create transcripts for missions, etc. Of course my biggest project are the clothing pages for GTA Online updates, totalling more than 10,000 uploaded images and increasing with each new update.

The number of projects I can work on has dropped over time (writing full mission articles and such tasks are mostly a thing of the past), since I have been attending university for the past three years. However, this only affects my ability to obtain images and other in-game info, which is why my general activity on the Wiki and discord has not dropped, as you probably know. I am still as interested in helping this Wiki as ever, and I can assure my activity will remain high in the future.

BolbiiS - Bureaucrat

So, the past couple weeks have been an upheaval for Wiki Staff, to say the least. Two long-time staff departing, and another moving down to Administrator. There's now a bit of an absence in the Bureaucrat role, and since multiple staff have offered me up as someone suited for the role, I think it's time I give it a shot!

Just to recap for those who don't know, I'm Nick! I first started using this wiki in February of 2019, becoming a frequent and active editor December of the same year. Since the beginning and up to now, I've always been a lover of "the busywork": the projects that require a ton of time dedicated to working down a list and rolling out the sweeping changes. After working on multiple large projects (Initial upload of all Social Club Vehicle images alongside Clubster and the transition from GTA 1 to GTA (1997 game) alongside Kamikatsu stand out in particular), I put out a request (and was unanimously approved for) the position of Patroller in April of 2020. After a year of managing rollbacks, and after handling a heated situation in the Wiki Discord, it was recommended that I apply for Administrator, which I eventually put out and was approved for exactly two years ago this week.

Nowadays, my life has changed quite a bit, and my interest in GTA Online only comes in small waves now, but my love for the Wiki and people who help run it has stayed consistent. I still very much enjoy working on huge, sweeping Wiki updates, having just finished our Radio Station template rollout, and am excited to help continue to make this place a great and simple-to-navigate encyclopedia of everything you'd ever need to know about Grand Theft Auto. I enjoy contributing to this space no matter what this series has done or has on the horizon, and am more than happy to continue to contribute, possibly this time as someone who can help make the big decisions.

I was wary of my technical skills when I first applied for Staff, and while I still have things to learn, I have absolutely learned and now know so much more than what I thought I would. And now, with the revival of the #todo channel on the Wiki Discord, my interest and attention towards this wiki is at an all-time high. With this promotion, I hope to continue to learn and contribute in a positive way. Thank you to all current and former staff, as well as the many other consistent editors over the past 4 years, and thank you for your consideration!

Hey there, I've just decided to apply for the admin position. Another brilliant production of the Wiki's resident Primate Policeman 188, blame him. I was suggested to apply for this position by the other staff on the Discord server, and by other currently "retired" editors I still have contact (Slash and Raziel).

As you may have noticed, I helped the wiki put some spotlights on content regarding GTA 1, London and 2 in the past few months, and currently updating mission articles with walkthrough galleries and trying to make sure each type of article follows the same pattern for consistency with the wiki's MoS.

My focus in the wiki is the lore in all three universes of the series, and this includes characters, locations and in-game branding. (Don't count me in for vehicles though, leave that for the blue-named car nerds... *cough* Matrex *cough*)

I'm also very active on the wiki and the Discord server.

Demotion - Camilo Flores

I propose that we engage in a discussion and vote regarding the demotion of Camilo Flores who has recently been involved in edit wars, thereby disregarding the community-voted proposal on trimming down obsessive and overzealous vehicle article "Design" section descriptions to a suitable level.

It is never easy to write up a Demotion proposal, especially when it involves a user that I once considered a Staff member who I personally could count on to support decisions made by myself and the community, however, I personally believe that their recent actions have lead to this decision.

Without getting off-topic, a summary of the discussion and proposal, which was voted in-favor of, was the following:

“a large portion of the GTA Online vehicles' design descriptions consist of literal walls-of-text, describing every last inch of the vehicle”
“they are now about 500-1000 words and better suited for use in a dissertation in automotive design”
“If we don't do this on characters, buildings, weapons, why do we do it here?”
“
  • Have you ever read the entirety of one of these design descriptions?
  • Do you think the average reader has ever read the entirety of these design descriptions?”
“I suggest that we trim down these down/keep these to relevant information that readers may actually want to know:
  • Real-life influences (which I actually propose could be moved to a different section, but that's shelved for now)
  • Design readers can't see from a picture (such as underside and interior features)
  • Design changes if a vehicle is an iteration or variant of a previous design/game entry
  • Functionality (flashing lights, movable parts, how doors are opened, etc)
  • Capacity, accessibility and animation
  • Colour scheme behavior (where relevant paint is applied)
  • Trivial design features (such as references to real world media; Rhapsody's interior decals)
  • Variation - extras (interior/exterior), props, stock condition liveries)
  • Audible description (sirens, horns*)”

After a successful vote, I began trimming down some of these descriptions to the afore-listed "criteria", outlining the essential and most noteworthy parts of a vehicle's design. This also brings it in-line with some of the 3D Universe descriptions which have never been this overzealous.

As Camilo Flores never engaged in this proposal, which involves something he was largely resposible for, he was encouraged to participate in the discussion and/or vote, but never did. He was contacted several times, both on Discord (via DM's by BolbiiS) and via his talk page. All messages were ignored, however an "enraged" conversation following the proposal did accrue in private DMs with BolbiiS, with his own list of proposals. As this discussion was never held publicly and did not take place on the CnB, it was not made to light. The private messages were also held after the vote was passed after several days.

Since the vote and proposal, Camilo Flores has still continued to add additional wall-of-text descriptions to articles. Some of these were later cleaned up by myself or other users, but were later quietly undone. This type of edit-warring has occurred across a number of articles since (feel free to browse forward through revisions of the following examples: 1 2 3 4 5)

Despite receiving notices and warnings of the proposal and to cease edit warring, the user has continued to persist in their actions. It is crucial that we show respect and listen to the concerns raised by other Staff members.

Furthermore, as staff members, we have certain duties that help maintain the standards of our Wiki. These responsibilities include actively patrolling for vandalism, taking appropriate actions against disruptive users, issuing warnings, ensuring that users are adhering to and reminded of media policies, and participating in Appreciation. Unfortunately, the user's engagement in these duties has been limited since March, with a notable decline in activity since the beginning of this year.

It has also come to our attention that Camilo Flores has not since rejoined the GTA Wiki Discord server after leaving and rejoining numerous times in the past few years. While it isn't a requirement to participate in the server, and several staff members continue not to, it is encouraged as it makes discussion easier.

This step is taken in the hope that it will allow for a more constructive environment, however, before proceeding with any action, it is urged that all community members to participate in this discussion and vote. Our decisions are most impactful when they reflect the collective voice of our community. Community engagement in this discussion is crucial, and with user input, we can ensure that GTA Wiki remains a welcoming platform for all GTA fans.

  • I have voted in support of this demotion request on the basis of the evidence I have been shown in the past few weeks/months. I do, however, invite Camilo to defend himself in the comments here to give his side of the story, as he didn't leave it on the original CNB post when invited to. Monk, as I asked him to, recently messaged Camilo once again, this time advising him of the specific parts of the vehicle descriptions which now need to follow the CNB vote.   • It's been greatly disappointing to watch this go down over the last couple months, and I hate to see a long-time staff member go over something so benign and easily discussed.   • I've had minor complaints about his administrator tasks in the past, such as incorrect block lengths and not bothering to use block templates on many occasions, but this recent behaviour is simply unacceptable. Not providing any response to the community noticeboard post and then reverting agreed-upon changes back to those wordy descriptions is not something I would expect from any staff member, much less an administrator. Seeing the amount of pressure and the clear evidence of my hostility and recent actions against the standards of the GTA Wiki, it is best for everyone that I should resign from my position on my own.

Nothing has been easy for me ever since the Mercenaries DLC dropped, and so is the lack of logical reasoning to defend my position in the first place. I understand that the excessive amount of text on my descriptions were an issue, but I had the best of my intentions to make them shorter and revisit previous edits to match that criteria. Unfortunately, I never stated such criteria anywhere, so there was no clue of where I am actually going.

I also understand that my erratic behaviour against other staff members was an issue, as I simply gave up over the whole argument and it became stressful for me. Hence why I never gave a proper discussion on the proposal when I was called for, seeing it was deemed a lost cause from the beginning, just like myself.

And I also understand that I did indeed never joined the server because, in addition to the aforementioned issues, I was a total nuisance. You all already witnessed the crappy person I am.

I never had the intention to cause any harm over anyone or anything and simply wanted to enjoy contributing what I always liked, but I guess it is too late to say sorry. I just hope you guys can still enjoy what I could not.

Hello, I decided to apply for the patroller position for the benefit of the wiki. I would like to improve the wiki and make it as accurate and detailed as I can. I check the activity every day after work, so I could be of use to make sure the wiki is protected from vandals and/or spammers. I read all the rules a number of times and I have a good idea of the formatting aspect and how a wiki should function. As of HTML & CSS I have a lot to still learn.

I have been playing GTA since I was a little kid and it has always appealed to me. My initial interest in GTAWiki was around July 2015 I'm guessing, with my first edit being on my old account in July 2015. I started mainly adding pictures and learning how to edit in December 2020. You can see my proudest edits (Best Contributions) on my page.

Hello! So I've been active in this wiki for a little while now and i wanted to help out as best as i could in my current situation (being as im an almost full time student) I figured a Patroller would be the best way to go,

I have history of helping out on discords for other platforms too!, I was a Moderator in several servers and i own a few servers my self!

The few edits i have made (one of which i was warned because i didnt realize it was a uk spelling, which was an honest mistake) have been towards spelling errors.

I want to help play a small role in this wiki, helpping out just a little bit more than your average member,

I Can mainly access at any point in the day that my computer is turned on, and after 3:00 pm CST i can be on at all times due to access through Xbox ( Xbox browser that i have keyboard?mouse hooked up too) , Mobile, Or my personal chromebook, SO i hope you guys will consider me for a position

  • It's simply too early to apply for a staff role. You only have 10 edits, and have yet to show anyone that you have the capability to be a staff member here. The best thing to do is just keep editing every day, find something within the wiki to work on as a project, get your edit count up. We'll also need to see that you could do the job of a Patroller, as their primary task is keeping an eye out for vandals and reporting them up the chain to an Admin who can then block them. As you're new, you're also not up to speed with how to format text on a wiki. I would recommend making sure to use Source mode to edit articles, as the Visual Editor you appear to be currently using is very bad for formatting. If you show as a regular user that you may have the ability to stop vandals, edit cleanly and keep up a good level of activity over a longer period of time, then you could apply to be a member of staff. Hey all!

So just over 3 years after my resignation, I'm here again, requesting for promotion. I've had a recent spike of interest in GTA once again and have decided to put that to good use here on the wiki.

Me

I probably don't need to explain who I am, what I do or what, but here goes anyway. I'm Monkeypolice188, now more commonly known as just "Monky" or "Monk". I've been contributing on the wiki since August 2014, almost 10 years ago. I was a Patroller from March to November 2015, Admin from November 2015 to March 2016, and Bureaucrat from March 2016 to November 2019 (on/off) I set up the GTA Wiki Discord in July 2018, which I ran until my departure from the wiki. I also run and operate GTA Wiki's main bot, MonkeyBot188, which, despite my departure in 2019, I continue to use intermittently on tasks by user request in the wiki Discord.

Expertise

I've gained an expertise in numerous fields across the wiki, mostly centralized around Vehicles and Locations, which I plan to continue working on. I've also worked on much of the backend stylising for the wiki (up until the Fandom UCP migration), including site css and js, and a huge amount of template work. Since my departure in 2019, I've also gained a huge amount of expertise in the inner workings of GTA V, with knowledge across all file types, navigation and delving into script and tuneables data, something that GTA Online and, thus, GTA Wiki heavily depends on. As a Bureaucrat, I dealt with a huge amount of decision making, most of which good, but I can see how some of my decisions had negative repercussions, so that's one area I'm working on improving in.

Why the Return?

Alongside my reignited interest in the GTA series, I also see my return as possible preparation for the near future. With the next entry of the GTA series on the horizon, and the possibility of a (proper) reveal this year, the wiki will undoubtedly see a significant rise in activity and, thus, vandals and trolls. With past admin experience, I can help deal with this effectively.

Activity

Despite not being fully active for the majority of last year, I had contributed with background work, including gaining vehicle front/rear quarters (and passing them onto Kamikatsu to upload), as well as remaining relatively active in the wiki Discord. My return comes with some drawbacks; actively studying at university (late in in life) (Feb-May), family/social life and work, however this hasn't stopped me from working on other things, so there's no reason it should stop me from this. I also now have a laptop as well as a desktop PC, meaning I can edit on the go.

Future projects

There's a whole host of content I wish to work on, and wrap up from past endeavours, in 2023. For starters, I want to clear out the delete requests, which I'll hopefully be able to do with the bot if it is given delete rights. I also want to work on cleaning up and creating more (suitable) redirects; something I've noticed recently is we haven't been creating nearly as many as we could be for more recent articles, and it's becoming a little more difficult to find content; in a wiki with now over 18,000 articles, it's important that the navigation remains as effective as it can be. I also want to work on missing redirects, self-redirects, red links and general navigation hickups.

In terms of article content, I want to completely redo some of the beta articles, stripping it back to bare bones and restarting, finding a suitable article structure and ensuring that only the cited information returns (and with proper citation). I want to restructure the Vehicles in GTA V image table into something that is easier to manage, and makes better use of available space across all platforms; with the addition of up to 20 vehicles per DLC, having to update this table often becomes a task that gets easily ignored. I want to complete the vehicle article project started in 2017, which involved revamping the infobox data with appropriate file data (including stripping back some completely pointless information. Again, the bot will be able to handle most of this. Finally, I want to continue working on location articles which are baron of information and decent imagery, get all location articles up to the same standardization and quality.
