No Escape?

Tommy Vercetti:
Now, I need a safe man.
Ken Rosenberg:
Oh, all right, well, let me think...safe, safe, safe, safe - I got it! This guy will blow you away! Ahh, nah, that schmuck. He's on the inside.
Tommy Vercetti:
Where inside?
Ken Rosenberg:
In a police headquarter cell awaiting transfer.
Tommy Vercetti:
I think he's about to get paroled....
Ken Rosenberg informs Tommy Vercetti that there's a safe-cracker for the bank job he is planning, but he is currently in police custody awaiting transfer.

No Escape? is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which protagonist Tommy Vercetti performs independently. The mission is the first asset mission for the Malibu Club.

Description

Tommy needs a safe-cracker for the bank job he is planning. Ken Rosenberg suggests a man named Cam Jones. However, Jones is currently in police custody awaiting transfer, so Tommy decides to "parole" Jones.

Tommy heads to the police station in Washington Beach and puts on a police uniform. He must not have any weapon drawn, otherwise the police will open fire on him after their first warning. After locating a key card in the station offices, Tommy heads down to the holding cells where Jones is located. Tommy swipes the key card and releases Jones from the cells.

At this point, the police realize Tommy is an imposter and open fire on him and Jones. Tommy and Jones flee the station and drive to a nearby Pay 'n' Spray. After losing the police, Tommy drives Jones to his home in Little Havana. Tommy drops Jones off, who agrees to be a safe-cracker for the heist.

Mission Objectives

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Break Cam Jones out of police custody!
  • Lose the cops.
  • Get Cam back to his house!

Transcript

Transcript
Tommy Vercetti goes upstairs to the office of the Malibu Club to see Ken Rosenberg, who's snorting cocaine.
Ken: Tommy! Hey, Tommy, look at this, this is great! I got us this minibar installed!
Tommy: We got a whole bar downstairs, Ken.
Ken: Yeah, yeah, whatever. Well, I got the chalkboard you asked for.
Tommy: (sarcastically) Ah, that's the benefit of a law school education: the ability to follow instructions. Now, I need a safe man.
Ken: Oh, all right, well, let me think...safe, safe, safe, safe - I got it! This guy will blow you away! Ahh, nah, that schmuck, he's on the inside.
Tommy: Where inside?
Ken: In a police headquarter cell awaiting transfer.
Tommy: I think he's about to get paroled...
Tommy leaves the Malibu Club and goes to the police station to break Cam Jones out.
NOTE: The following lines will play if Tommy does certain actions inside the police station without wearing a police uniform.
Cop:

  • (if Tommy draws a weapon) Put the weapon away or face the consequences!
  • (if Tommy still has his weapon drawn) He's armed! Kill him!
  • (if Tommy goes to the restricted hallway leading to the offices) Hey, get him! Only authorized personnel beyond this point!
Tommy finds the key card in the offices and heads downstairs to open Cam's cell.
Tommy: Cam Jones?
Cam: Yeah, that's me.
Tommy: I'm busting you out.
Cam: Whatever you say.
The police station alarm starts ringing.
Cam: Lose the heat and get me back to my place!
Tommy and Cam lose the cops and head to Cam's Can Openers in Viceport.
Tommy: I'm gonna be doing a job and you're my safe cracker.
Cam: Beats losing my ass in a cell!
Cam leaves and walks inside.

Glitches

  • If the player completes Two Bit Hit before this mission, the Havana Outfit will be put behind an invisible wall and will not be obtainable. To avoid this, Cop Land, No Escape? and The Job missions should be completed before Two Bit Hit. This was patched on the Mac version and the mobile ports of the game.

Trivia

  • The song that can be heard playing in the background during the opening cutscene is "Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)" by Hashim. The song doesn't play inside the Malibu Club during normal gameplay, but is featured on the in-game radio station Wildstyle, as well as the third trailer for the game.
  • The name of the mission could be a nod to the 1994 Ray Liotta film of the same name.
  • In the original game, the player receives a four-star wanted level after releasing Jones from the cells or entering the police station with a weapon. In the mobile version, this is reduced to three stars.
  • This is the only time in the game where the VCPD officers are armed with Uzis.
