Rainé

The water that rich people drink, and the main reason why there are now entire continents of plastic bottles floating in the ocean.

Rainé is a bottled water manufacturer featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. The player can buy stocks from them on the Liberty City National Exchange website in Grand Theft Auto V.

Description

Rainé water coolers can be found in various interiors, such as the office of Roman's taxi firm in Hove Beach, Broker, the Grotti Showroom in Middle Park East, Algonquin, the Liberty City Swingers offices in the MeTV Building in Star Junction, Algonquin, hospitals and much more. Rainé bottled water is advertised on billboards across Liberty City. The company logo is found on some Steed trucks. Rainé returns in GTA V, sponsoring a magazine most likely called "Tennis Beach".

The company's name and motto ("L'eau du ciel", French for "The water of the sky") imply that they sell bottled rain water. The vending machines in GTA V also say "may contain acid & some dirt", which may be a reference to acid rain, a common pollutant found in rain which may occur in large metropolitan areas. It may also be a reference to carbonic acid, a chemical which forms when carbon dioxide reacts with water, found in the atmosphere and also present in quantities in bottled sparkling water. The vending machines also say "le ciel est boue pleurante", French for "the sky is weeping mud"; in addition to the "may contain acid & some dirt" phrase, this indicates that the company's water is most likely poorly filtered.

Influence

Rainé is likely a parody of the French water mark Evian, or the popular US brand Glaceau Smartwater. The shape of the bottles found in Grand Theft Auto IV seemingly parody Fiji Water bottles.
