History
Background
Sergei was a Spetsnaz (Russian special forces), mentioned as an old friend of helmsman Pavel.
According to Pavel, Sergei died while performing a Spetsnaz tactical approach method he invented called "valiant jump from cliff" (in Russian).
Like many of Pavel's relatives and friends mentioned during The Cayo Perico Heist, Sergei is a stereotypical/traditional Russian given name.
Events of Grand Theft Auto Online
During the events of The Cayo Perico Heist, Sergei is mentioned on one occasion during the finale. If the GTA Online Protagonist walks close to the clifftop balcony in El Rubio's Compound, Pavel will assume they're planning to jump off the balcony to escape. He warns them off by recalling Sergei's death after he jumped off a cliff.
According to Pavel, he still keeps part of Sergei's skull under his hat for luck.
