Windsor

Blurring the lines between an automobile and an English aristocrat's mansion, this is a car that could even give a nu-metal fan an air of class and taste. The bumbling manufacturer made the aerodynamics so poor and the chassis so heavy that its dual-turbo engine can barely get it to a kerb-crawl, but that's part of (or all of) its British charm.Legendary Motorsport description.

The Windsor is a two-door convertible in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and a luxury two-door coupé in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Ill-Gotten Gains Part 1 update. It is manufactured by Enus in the HD Universe.

Influence

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The Windsor is designed as a 1960s to early 1970s classic convertible sports car, resembling a late 60s–mid 70s Jaguar E-Type or a Series 1 Alfa Romeo Spider, albeit featuring a stretched rear and a generally longer proportion. The front seems to be based on the 1964-1966 Ferrari America 500 Superfast. It also has some attributes from the Chevrolet Corvette Ray Convertible, for example, the roof or the exhaust's shape.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online

The Windsor returned as a modern, larger coupé, taking heavy influence from the Rolls Royce Wraith, and elements from the second-generation Bentley Continental GT, as seen in the roofline, bonnet, and boot. The grille as well as the rear bumper might have been inspired by the second-generation Chrysler 300.

Design

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The car may spawn with its black top up or down, and a variety of single body colours.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online

The car takes a contemporary coupé body design with luxury features around it. The front of the car is seemingly flat and features small intakes on the lower side, with the outer intakes having horizontal separations on the middle and modern light strips on the upper sides. The upper area of the front fascia is mostly dominated by the chrome horizontal grille, which spans two-thirds of the car's width, while the outer edges are occupied by chrome housings, containing dual square headlamps and trapezium-shaped signals below the outer lamps. The car also has an upraised bonnet with a chrome ornament on the front.

The side of the car are relatively simple, with a slightly flared profile on the arches and the skirting area, while the doors have a set of chrome handles and body-coloured mirror wings. The greenhouse area is relatively long and bears chrome details around the windows and on the inner pillars, more prominent than most cars with similar detailings.

The rear of the car is mostly dominated by the tall boot compartment, having a discreet lip on the upper side and the manufacturer emblem below it. The outer edges of the car features dual tail lamps, consisting of outer square lamps and inner L-shaped lights, with the bottom ones being reverse lamps. The rear bumper is relatively bulky, having the corresponding section for the license plate and the mouldings for the twin chrome, square-shaped exhaust tips.

The vehicle's interior is shared with the Carbonizzare and the Super Diamond, being a derivative of the "Schafter" interior with a beige leather fabric. However, it has a unique wooden panelling/backing on the middle section of the dashboard and the lower central console, the latter replacing the original black backing from the aforementioned cars. It also sports the corresponding manufacturer emblem on the horn cap, a detail not present on the cars mentioned above.

The primary colour of the car is applied on the bodywork and the interior stitching, while the secondary colour is applied on the bonnet, cabin area and the boot. The Windsor is also the first car in the series to feature multiple designer liveries (eight in total), which can be applied to the exterior of the car, similar to the vinyl wrapping process. By default, the Windsor appears without a livery in the protagonists' garages (original edition only), however, when purchasing it from Legendary Motorsport, the player can only order the vehicle with a livery, which can be changed or removed at Los Santos Customs. The vinyl wrap will be affected by the base primary and secondary colour paint. It uses a set of rims identical to the "GT Chrome" high-end wheels, which are also available in Los Santos Customs.

Performance

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The Windsor is a fast car; however, it does not match up to some of the "elite" cars. The Windsor's engine is very loud, giving out a throaty roar. Acceleration and speed is on par with other similar classic two-door cars. Cornering is very difficult, as the car seems to be much heavier than it looks. It also tends to subtly fishtail or drift, despite running at mid speeds, though experienced players can control its drifting capabilities.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online

Performance-wise, the Windsor is middle-range for the coupes class, sporting an acceleration time between the Oracle (which is best in class), and the Felon. Top speed is very fast for a coupé, faster than every other car in its class, and even some of the sports cars. Handling, however, is terrible due to the Windsor's weight, and causes the vehicle to have notable understeer. Braking is average for the coupes class. The car's weight causes it to feel very planted when cornering, and makes the Windsor very difficult to roll.

The Windsor is stated to sport a large twin-turbo V12 engine, but the car has a engine cover depicting a single-cam V8, with no clear 3D model underneath. The car seems to have a potent yet smooth engine sound under the hood, being considerably quieter than other large-engined cars.

Trivia

General

  • Its name may be inspired from the Windsor family, which is the name of United Kingdom's royal family, asserting its British origins.
    • This is further evidenced for the vehicle in Grand Theft Auto V, which is manufactured by British car manufacturer Enus. Windsor, being the name of a royal family also fits the luxury aspect of the vehicle.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

  • Oddly enough, the front license plate is mounted so that it partly obstructs the engine's main source of air. This is most likely a developer's oversight.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online

  • The Yeti Mall Ninja version of the Windsor paints in Worn Green as default, which is a rare paintjob that cannot be purchased in any auto repair shops.
