- Daniel Page: "Um, sure. I know we'll never know if she got it, but..."
- Ivy Warrington: "It doesn't matter. I know I'm going to find her...someday."

Ivy Warrington (b. 1997) was a half-blood[3] witch, who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 2008.[1]
Biography
Early life
- Ivy Warrington: "I'll talk to the professors at school. Maybe if they speak to father he'll change his mind."
- Winifred Warrington: "You know he won't. He doesn't care. No one does. Especially not you."
- Ivy Warrington: "That's not true, Winnie. I care about you. I want us to be together."
- Winifred Warrington: "Then why are you leaving me?"
- Ivy Warrington: "Stop it, Winnie! You'll get us into trouble."
- Winifred Warrington: "Good. Maybe father won't let you go, either. In that case, you won't be needing your trunk!"
- — Ivy speaking with Winifred before she vanished herself[src]
Ivy was born to a Muggle father and a witch mother. She had a grandmother who was a witch. She also had a older[9] twin sister named Winifred Warrington, who was also a witch.[10] Ivy first showed signs of magic when she was four or five years old.[11] The family possibly lived in or near Ottery St Catchpole.[12] Ivy used to ride a broomstick but stopped because she had no friends to play with.[13]
When Ivy and her sister were young, her grandmother made oliebollen to celebrate the New Year. It contained Ivy's favourite gooseberries and Winifred's favourite apples.[14]
She and her sister were accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, however, Winifred was not allowed to attend because their father feared her unpredictable magic could hurt someone. Ivy promised to speak to the professors so they could speak with her father to make him change his mind, but Winifred was resentful and stubborn about not being allowed to attend, and accused Ivy of not caring about her. Ivy tried to reason with her, but Winifred attempted to use Evanesco on Ivy's school trunk so she could not go to Hogwarts as well, which backfired and caused Winifred to vanish. Their grandmother tried to help her forget what happened by using a Memory Charm. However, it caused her to wholly forget about Winifred. Ivy had an ability to vanish, and would do so even when she didn't intend to.[5] It was unknown when she manifested this ability.
At some point, she bought a wand at Ollivanders. Shortly before starting Hogwarts, she took her wand back there to ask Garrick Ollivander to check it over. She explained that the spells she used do were no longer working properly. He asked her to demonstrate it but she knocked over a stack of The Monster Book of Monsters. Another child buying their wand in the shop and they helped her deal with the books. Ivy's spells started working properly with their help and afterwards, she introduced herself and thanked them for their help. When she learned they were also starting Hogwarts that year, she told them she would see them at school.[15]
Hogwarts years (2008–)
First year
At the age of eleven, Ivy began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While she was on the Hogwarts Express, she noticed the student she met in Ollivanders struggling to find a seat. Ivy invited them to sit with her and told them she was very excited about going to Hogwarts. They told her they were nervous but Ivy responded that they shouldn't be because the castle was amazing and she couldn't wait to start exploring. During the Sorting Ceremony, Ivy went missing.[16] She was sorted at a later time into the same house as the student, Daniel Page and Lottie Turner.[17]
Ivy got lost when she was wandering around the castle in search of something she couldn't remember. She was sure she was being followed and eventually the door to the Room of Requirement appeared. She entered it and waited for help. The student and Daniel eventually found her sitting on a trunk. She was delighted to be found and told them the story of how she ended up getting lost. Daniel told her they had to leave before they were caught out after curfew. They told her to bring her trunk but she didn't think it was hers so they left it.[18]
Second year
A Christmas present
One day during the Christmas holidays of her second year, Ivy and her friend found Daniel in the Potions classroom. He spent all day mixing a potion. Ivy asked why, he told her that he was making a confidence boosting brew to give to his older sister Esme, who had been working a lot since their parents were imprisoned. Daniel had spent the past month working on the potion and had devised his own recipe, which included a Pepperup Potion, a Wit-Sharpening Potion and a few other ingredients. Ivy pointed out that his support would be what would make Esme happier than anything else. However, Daniel claimed that this potion must have been what she needed most.
Later, Ivy and her friend found Daniel sitting in the corner of the ballroom stage. Daniel reported that the gift had been sent back, and then told his sister that his dedication in itself had amplified her confidence. When Ivy expressed her delight that her guesses had been right, Daniel murmured that Ivy had been right, as usual. He asked Ivy to pick out a present for Esme on his behalf for her birthday, to which she readily agreed. Daniel was unwilling to waste a confidence boosting brew that only had a short shelf life. He took the potion himself, leaving his two friends in a state of shock. He began to disclose his immense confidence in his potion brewing skill and other abilities, and said that he had been working on something in secret. Daniel then went on stage and began to dance alone as the students around him looked on.[19]
In the Great Hall, decorated for Christmas, Ivy was sitting at a table, looking deflated. When a friend pointed this out, she revealed that she was recalling memories of Christmas with her older sister, Winifred. Then Daniel appeared and invited them to a 'real snowball fight'. Ivy promised to go later and left the Great Hall. Daniel asked his friend about Ivy's condition, and when he found out why, he let out a few words as if he had thought of something and left the Great Hall.
Daniel found Ivy in the Astronomy Tower. He showed her the present he had prepared, but she refused, saying she was not in the mood to open it. He said the present was for Winifred. Ivy regarded this as an unfunny joke. Daniel suggested the idea of giving this present to Winifred with the Vanishing Spell. Although a strange idea, he thought that this might help Ivy feel more connected to her sister. With the help of headmistress McGonagall, Daniel had collected 'memories' from Ivy's friends of when they met her. He explained this enabled Winifred to know Ivy's friends as well as Ivy did. His words left her in tears. After the present vanished, Daniel said that he was sure it was impossible for them to know if Winifred got it, clamming up and stopped speaking in the middle of a sentence. Ivy followed his words by saying, "It didn't matter, I'm going to find her......someday."[20]
Third year
Fourth year
Physical description
Ivy was younger looking than her age,[21] with white skin, long, straight silver hair that covered the right half of her face, and purple eyes.[2] She always wore a shimmering blue locket around her neck.[6] She was very similar to her twin sister Winifred, but the difference was that unlike her sister, who had the same blue eyes as their mother, she had the same purple eyes as their grandmother.
She typically wore a uniform robe and long brown boots, with a book-shaped bag over her shoulder. Outside of class, she was dressed more casually in a plum-coloured checked dress, white cardigan, and white stockings.
She was considered a pretty girl by her classmates, as were Robyn Thistlethwaite and Cassandra Vole,[22] but was also described as 'a bit weird'.[23]
Personality and traits
Ivy was an energetic, confident witch with excellent wand skills and a desire to prove herself.[6] Before attending Hogwarts, she had already been taught magic by her maternal grandmother and was familiar with many advanced spells and charms.[2][24] She was smart and fiercely loyal to her friends, and not afraid of confrontation to defend them.[6] She was particularly close to Daniel Page and the other student, who found her lost in the Room of Requirement. She often helped Daniel or wound him up.
She took a negative stance against the disregard and disdain of non-magical peoples,[25] but was not supportive of the notorious group known as NOTME and did not trust them at all.[26]
Despite the generally positive outlook, she often had the feeling that something was missing.[6] Her memory was sometimes hazy and she spent the first night at the school sleepwalking through a number of corridors and staircases. Although she did not know why she does, she also knew that Daniel's mother had been put in Azkaban.
She sometimes became unstable, which surfaced when she tracked down Cassandra Vole, who had insulted her friend Daniel Page. She unintentionally released the Vanishing spell in an attempt to disarm Cassandra. She did not know at the time how or why she had used the spell, but later discovered that it had been influenced by a rough and hasty Memory Charm her grandmother had cast on her before she started at Hogwarts.
When talking about her future, Ivy told some vague dreams to be an Auror, run a candy shop or breed Crups.[27]
She was known for her sweet tooth, including candy, coconut pudding and sugar quills, and would eat several treacle tarts prepared in the ballroom. She liked other foods too, and when Hogwarts celebrated the New Year with food, she mentioned a number of foods as her favourites, but Robyn Thistlethwaite pointed out that everything was Ivy's favourite. She was impressed by the excellence of Chinese cuisine and even started to think that she would like to visit the East one day.[28]
Magical abilities and skills
- Magical aptitude: Ivy learnt difficult spells from an early age, showing magical proficiency.[2]
- Charms: Ivy was proficient in the casting of charms. She could successfully cast the Freezing Spell, the Full Body-Bind Curse the Disarming Charm, Shield Charm and the Locking Spell.[5] She was able to conjure a powerful corporeal pug Patronus in her third year, an exceptional magical feat for a Hogwarts student, as a corporeal Patronus was a mark of superior magical ability. She was known to enjoy Charms class at Hogwarts.[2]
- Transfiguration: She could successfully cast the Vanishing Spell. She was able to vanish large objects, such as luggage and adult-sized suits of armours.[5] She was known to enjoy Transfiguration class at Hogwarts.
- Duelling: Ivy learned everything about duelling from her grandmother.[29] She excelled in duels[2] and was able to beat the Frey twins by herself.[30]
- Healing magic: She once successfully used the spell Episkey to heal Daniel Page's broken nose.[31]
Possessions
- Fairy: During her youth, Ivy acquired this fairy and asked her mother if she could keep it. Her mother forbade her to keep the fairy, but her grandmother secretly helped Ivy hide it in her room.[5]
- Wand: Ivy's wand was 12½ inches, made of cherry with a dragon heartstring core.[2]
- Memory locket: Ivy owned a locket which contained memories.[5]
- Owl: Ivy owned this owl by the time she arrived at Hogwarts.[32]
Relationships
Family
She seemed to adore her twin sister Winifred. After their father decided not to send Winifred to Hogwarts, Ivy told her sister about her plan to persuade her father with Hogwarts's professors. However, in the end, her sister was unable to contain her resentment and disappeared before Ivy's eyes through a spell she unleashed herself. Ivy was dismayed. Her Boggart appeared as herself, even after her memories about her sister were erased.
She appeared to have a relatively good relationship with her grandmother. For her, a taste of home was the apple and gooseberry oliebollen her grandmother would make at Christmas.[14] However, she often suspected that her grandmother was hiding something.[33] The truth was that her grandmother had erased the existence of her sister Winifred from her memory, and that this was to protect her mind. However, in reality, Winifred had not disappeared and had been sleeping in her bed at St Mungo's for three years, leaving Ivy with strong suspicions as to why her grandmother had not checked the hospital.
Not much is known about her parents. Her father was a Muggle and did not carry his surname to his daughters. Her mother lived with Ivy's family when she was very young,[33] but was no longer at home before she entered Hogwarts.
Cassandra Vole
- Cassandra Vole: "So let's ask the "spell genius" to demonstrate it first. You'll be able to do it very well!"
- Ivy Warrington: "Of course, it's just a locking spell. Cassandra, you'll see. Eh? How can … this be impossible!"
- Cassandra Vole: "Oh my … it is not so easy at all.(laughing)"
- The other student: "Ivy, Cassandra's lips moved slightly when you spoke the incantation just now, so I'm guessing she cast the counter-spell."
- — Group work in Charms[src]
Ivy shared a deeply antagonistic and competitive mutual enmity and rivalry with Cassandra. Their relationship was fraught with tension from the very beginning, marked by malice and sudden outbursts of anger. Ivy despised Cassandra as a bully who thrived on others' misfortune,[34] often acting on impulses of anger in response to Cassandra's actions and frequently needing to be restrained by her friends. Cassandra, on the other hand, firmly believed that not all people were born equal and considered her own existence as proof of this notion. She oppressed others "simply to make them understand their position"[35] and felt particularly compelled to teach Ivy 'a few lessons',[6] often revealing her malicious intent.
During a first-year Charms class, Cassandra secretly sabotaged Ivy's practical performance with a counter-spell and mocked her afterwards. When her interference was discovered, she brazenly continued to insult Ivy. In response, Ivy thought to herself that she'd rather "bind Cassandra's mouth than the chest" and used a binding spell on her, losing house points as a result. Later, she jokingly suggested to her friends that they name a club formed to recover the lost house points "Cassandra Stinks".[36] On another occasion, when Cassandra ruined a painting by Lottie Turner, Ivy angrily tailed Cassandra all the way to the library, so blinded by rage that she failed to realise her own behaviour until it was pointed out.[37]
The first step in their worst clash began when Ivy stumbled upon an argument between her friend Daniel and Cassandra. Ivy criticised Cassandra for describing Muggles as foolish people who even feared their own shadows. However, Cassandra justified her stance, threatened to send Daniel to Azkaban, and made a cutting remark about Ivy's disappearance on the first day at school. Ivy chased Cassandra through several staircases and corridors, demanding an apology for Daniel. Cassandra instead advised Ivy to choose her friends more carefully, which escalated into a duel. In the heat of the moment, Ivy attempted to disarm Cassandra but somehow ended up using a Vanishing Spell. Ivy was shocked by her own actions, while Cassandra was visibly terrified.
Afterwards, on her friends' advice, Ivy tried to mend her relationship with Cassandra. However, Cassandra coldly responded that she had plenty of friends and wasn't particularly interested in someone like Ivy as a friend. She mocked Ivy for being "lost", much like on her first day at school, and ridiculed her for her strange behaviour.[38]
Despite these incidents, Ivy occasionally displayed a strange desire to connect with Cassandra. One Christmas, when Alice, a clerk from Fickle Fabrics, visited Hogwarts, Ivy tried to give Cassandra a Slytherin-style green pointed hat. However, the gift was poorly received, and Ivy felt so mortified by her design choice that she briefly thought she deserved to be sent to Azkaban. Encouraged by her friends, she recovered and decided to create a hat herself, this time focusing not on Cassandra's house but on her close friends, which helped her recover.[39]
On another Christmas, Ivy gifted Cassandra a ribbon for her hair. This gift was a success, secretly pleasing Cassandra.[40][41][42][43] Later, after the Siege of Hogwarts, Ivy was not particularly surprised to hear that Cassandra had thanked her friend, unlike Daniel Page, who expressed scepticism. Ivy even defended Cassandra to Daniel and seemed prepared to accept her as a new friend if given the chance.[44]
In their fourth year, noticeable tension began to permeate Ivy and Cassandra's relationship when Winifred quickly and easily befriended Cassandra, drifting away from her younger sister.[45] Ivy grew uneasy about the bond between Cassandra and her sister, and this unease surfaced as sharp words of reproach toward Cassandra when Winifred rejected her. However, after the sisters reconciled and Winifred expressed a desire for Ivy to get along with her closest friend, their relationship began to take a slightly positive turn.
During their final challenge, Ivy offered Cassandra encouragement, to which Cassandra silently responded with a smile.[46] At the end-of-term feast, Ivy joined Cassandra's company alongside her sister.[47] Later, during a Hogsmeade trip with her sister just before the Christmas holidays, Ivy unexpectedly ended up spending time with Cassandra. Although their relationship remained strained and distorted, it was held together by their connection through Winifred.[32]
Etymology
- 'Ivy' is a rampant, clinging evergreen vine plant. It symbolises eternity, fidelity, strong affection, and resilience, thriving even in harsh environments. It represents perennial life and immortality and also signifies dependence and attachment, as seen in its climbing nature to reach sunlight.
Behind the scenes
- "Ivy—I love that girl. She cares so much for her friends and she's full of life. The fact that she doesn't fully remember her own would make for some very interesting train conversation. Plus I love how she always winds Daniel up. Sit between them and let the fun begin!"
- — Rob DeBorde, the Harry Potter: Magic Awakened lead writer[src]
- "I'm going to ditto Rob's answer and say Ivy. She's so original, confident, mysterious, and a little bit scary – in a good way. Plus I could see us both eating our way through all the sweets on the trolley cart."
- — Sarah McKague, one of the Harry Potter: Magic Awakened writers[src]
- Ivy is voiced by American actress Eden Riegel in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened.[48]
- It is possible that she was related to Cassius Warrington.
- Ivy doesn't have a set House at Hogwarts. Her character will be put into the same House that the player chooses to be in.
- Ivy is left-handed in the concept art, profile images (English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), the companion card and the first year main story, but she uses her wand with her right hand in the third and fourth year main story and NPC co-operation mode.
- Ivy and Winifred were the first characters in the franchise to carry their mother's maiden surname. Artemisia Black, whose mother was from the noble House of Black, later appeared in Hogwarts Legacy. Artemisia's father was a Muggle, as was Ivy and Winifred's father.
- Rob DeBorde, the head writer of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, implied that the trio (the player, Ivy, Daniel) in the game were mirroring the Golden Trio.[51]
- Like Ron Weasley, Ivy and Daniel were very loyal, strong and humorous people,[52][53] but sometimes immature and insensitive. Ivy also shared her fondness for food with Ron.
- Like Hermione Granger, Ivy liked to show her abilities,[54] and Daniel wanted to be best at all things magical.[54] They were not afraid to rebel against their friends and often tended to argue. Ivy had also learnt many spells before attending Hogwarts.
- Like Harry Potter, they were both brave, but often had short tempers and acted impulsively. They also experienced social isolation, Ivy showed signs of insomnia (nightmares), and Daniel was in a position of having to make ethical choices. They were all half-blood wizards who had grown up with Muggles.
- In an early stage of development of the game, she was a person from over 50 years prior. She grew up in a happy wizarding family, but unlike her sister, who often showed off her magic to her, she insisted that she should not use it unnecessarily until she was old enough. In reality, she tried several times but never once succeeded. However, as soon as she started school and was able to use magic, she saw no problem with it.[55]
- In the first Chinese closed beta test plot, the Warrington sisters' birth order was reversed and the daughter that Mr Warrington did not want to send to Hogwarts was Ivy.
- Both her favourite food, oliebollen,[14] and her Patronus form, pug, are related to the Netherlands.
- Both her Patronus form, a pug, and Daniel Page's, a black cat, are animals that head writer Rob DeBorde has owned.
- Ivy appears on the Glacius and Glacius Maxima card other than companion card. This is probably referring to 'Glacier'(variegated ivy).
- Somehow, in one of the preview images showing students exposed to Dementors' influence, Ivy's right pupil has a blue discolouration.[56] Its colour matches that of her sister, Winifred.
