This finding aid encompasses accessions of single manuscripts and small groups of manuscripts and other papers, by or pertaining to Walter Savage Landor, which the library has chosen to group and list as an artificial collection. Materials given by George Arents are organized into the first series. Materials given by Ray L. Murphy are organized into the second series. Additional materials comprise the third series.

Abstract

Correspondence, writings, printed material, and artwork by or relating to Walter Savage Landor. Correspondence includes 12 ALS to William Allingham, an open letter to Ralph Waldo Emerson, and 2 ALS to Frances Milton Trollope. The writings include three sets of proof-sheets for Dry Sticks, a printed copy of Gebir, Count Julian, and other poems, with copious ms. corrections, excisions, etc. Accompanying material includes three pencil portraits of Landor by William Wetmore Story.

Access Information

The Beinecke Library is open to all Yale University students and faculty, and visiting researchers whose work requires use of its special collections. You will need to bring appropriate photo ID the first time you register. Beinecke is a non-circulating, closed stack library. Paging is done by library staff during business hours.
