Bomani is one of the primary protagonists of the Grimm Fairy Tales Comic adaptation of The Jungle Book. He is the adopted son of Shere Khan.

Biography

The Jungle Book

When Bomani is just a baby, he, along with three other children, are kidnapped by pirates (presumably to sell them to human trafficking). Soon, the ship crashes on Kipling Isle, disrupting the battle between the animals that live there. Given that their arrival has ended the war, the children are adopted by the animals. Due to his courage, Bomani is adopted by the Shere (Tiger tribe), and is raised by its leader, Shere Khan.

As Bomani grows, he struggles to please his father, who derisively calls him "failed tiger". He is constantly mocked and ridiculed by the other tigers, as well as a vulture, for his inability to hunt like a tiger. One evening, Khan leads the tigers in an ambush on the Seeonee (wolf tribe), mostly to avenge his deceased mate, Shere Daya. After being mocked by the vulture again, Bomani joins in, in spite of Khan's orders for him to stay back. As punishment, Khan slashes him across the arm. After the massacre is over, Bomank goes back with the rest of the Shere, he notices Mowglii glaring at him.

The following day, Bomani is ambushed by Kaa, the giant python, who intends to devour him. The snake also tries to devour Mowglii, along with her friend, Baloo, the bear. Just before Kaa can eat any of them, they are rescued by the Tavi (small mammal tribe) and its adopted child, Akili. Mowglii, presuming Bomani to be responsible for her tribe's death, pursues him through the jungle, only to wind up at the camp of the Shere. Shere Khan congratulates Bomani for supposedly leading her to them. Bomani tries to protest, due to Mowglii's injuries, only for Khan to slash him on the arm again. Bomani then watches as his adopted father battles Mowglii, which ends in the former's alleged death. Presuming Khan to be dead, Bomani assumes leadership of the Shere.

Last of the Species

In the second arc, it is shown that Bomani has assumed leadership of the Shere, much to Shere Kutil's chagrin. At the beginning, he leads the Shere in an attack on the Payari (elephant tribe). In the midst of it, he catches sight of Mowglii, and attempts to avenge Khan's supposed death. He is stopped by Dewan (the one adopted by the Bandar (primate tribe)). Bomani chases Dewan all the way to Bandar-Log, where he stays for a bit.

The Bandar share their fruit with him, and it makes him forget the pains of his loss. When he demands more, Bandar Louis (the leader of the Bandar, and Dewan's foster father) agrees on the condition that Bomani kills Kaa and brings him his head. Bomani agrees and searches for the snake accompanied by Dewan. In the midst of it, Bomani comes across Grey Sister (who also survived the massacre of the Seeonee), who notices that one of her pups has gone missing. Bomani then finds Kaa trying to devour the missing pup, but the pup is saved through the combined efforts of Bomani, Dewan, and Grey Sister, but, the battle ends with Grey Sister losing her life.

At the end of the second arc, Bomani is both surprised and joyful that Shere Khan emerges alive (albeit with an injured leg), Mowglii, and Tobaqui (Akili's jackal sidekick). He then tells Mowglii that he saved the wolf cubs from Kaa. However, due to this, and Khan's injury, both Bomani and Khan are cast out of the Shere.

Fall of the Wild

Bomani makes his final appearance in the third and final arc of the series. He is first seen scavenging off carcasses with his foster father. The two then notice that Kutil has been killed by Hathi, the elephant, making them both realize that the Shere are now without a leader. Soon after, Bomani saves Mowglii from being trampled by a gemsbok stampede that Mowglii had triggered in her plan to rescue Akili, who had been abducted by Bandar Louis (who wished to make her his queen). Shortly after Akili is rescued, however, Bomani notices that Mowglii had been captured by pirates, who wish to return her to civilization to collect the bounty for her safe return.

Bomani pursues the pirates to rescue Mowglii, with Shere Khan, Tobaqui, and Dewan following. The four fight the pirates on their ship, and succeed in rescuing Mowglii, but, Bomani is fatally impaled by one of the pirates. To honor Bomani's sacrifice, Khan allows Mowglii to wear the battle claws that Bomani wore. Bomani's death is ultimately avenged when the pirates are defeated by the united animal tribes.

Personality

At the start of the series, Bomani had something of an inferiority complex, as his main desire was to please his foster father, and is constantly ridiculed and insulted by the other tigers. His devotion to Khan carried over to his supposed death, as he assumes leadership of the Shere, and attacks the Payari in the same manner that Khan attacked the wolves. This also lead to a temporary vengeful streak, as seen when he tries to attack Mowglii during the ambush on the elephants.

Despite Khan's original harsh treatment of him, Bomani stays by his foster father's side during their time in exile, showing a more compassionate side. This is also shown when he saves one of the wolf pups from being devoured by Kaa.

It is also implied that Bomani harbors romantic feelings towards Mowglii, as he initially protected her from Shere Khan before being adopted by him, and when he saves her from being trampled by a stampede. His feelings for Mowglii comes full circle when he sacrifices his life to save her from the pirates threatening Kipling Isle.
