Companions (Doctor Who)

The Doctor's Companions are the main deuteragonists of the Doctor Who franchise. They're a group of specific people chosen (either by fate or by the Doctor himself) to accompany the Doctor on his journeys through time and space. Companions are often surrogates for the audience, with the audience learning more about the story and the universe through the eyes of the companions. Arguably, they are the true protagonists of their respective eras throughout the show. The Companions serve as the moral support of the Doctor, and the ones who keep him calm and stable, with the Doctor becoming unhinged or depressed without a companion.

Trivia

  • The Doctor tells Amy in an extra scene that he needs companions to see the wonders of the universe again; everything is just facts to him.
    • You see a star, you see something impressive. Me? It's a big ball of gas. I know how it began, and know how it ends. ....and I was probably there both times. But when you see it, I see it.
  • In the Classic Era, companions tended to get dropped off in different locations and eras rather than their homes (Susan, Leela, Romana, Nyssa, Turlough, Peri and Mel), with it rarely happening in the Revived Era (Rose, Amy, Rory, Nardole, Bill)
  • The companions never get sick easily due to the Time Vortex mutating their immune systems to be stronger.
