He is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, who also plays his mainstream counterpart, Defender Strange, Strange Supreme and different versions of the character in the series, and also played Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock and voiced Classified in Penguins of Madagascar and The Grinch in the 2018 film of the same name.
Biography
Early Life
Strange met Christine Palmer and fell in love with her, but their relationship eventually ended due to Strange's obsession with always being the one to "hold the knife" and fix everything. In 2012, Strange was in a car accident that severely injured his hands, leading him to seek training in the Mystic Arts. He later became the Sorcerer Supreme and the Master of the New York Sanctum, forging a friendship with Karl Mordo along the way.
The Illuminati
In 2015, Strange assembled a team of Earth's greatest protectors, including Professor X, a telepathic mutant; Mister Fantastic, leader of the Fantastic Four; Captain Carter, the First Avenger; Captain Marvel, a powerful cosmic hero; and Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans. The team was formed to defend their reality from significant universal threats, taking on difficult decisions others couldn't.
In 2018, as Thanos began his crusade to collect the Infinity Stones, the Illuminati united to stop him, except for Doctor Strange. He used the Darkhold to explore the Multiverse for a solution through dreamwalking, but this caused an incursion between two realities, destroying one of them.
Death
Despite Strange’s actions, the Illuminati found the Book of Vishanti and used it to defeat Thanos on Titan. However, Strange confessed to the group that he had caused the destruction of a universe after renouncing the Darkhold. In response, Strange chose to face execution by Black Bolt, as directed by the Illuminati. Though the Illuminati mourned the loss of their friend, they believed it was for the greater good.
Legacy
After his death, Karl Mordo was appointed as the new Sorcerer Supreme and a member of the Illuminati. The group also made a difficult decision to tell the world that Strange had sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos, and the world mourned his loss, honoring him with a statue outside the New York Sanctum.
