Dr. Stevens (Comic Series)

What has that monster done to you?Dr. Stevens to an unconscious Rick.

Dr. Stevens is a character in the post-apocalyptic horror comic book series, The Walking Dead. He was a former Otolaryngologist that turned into the town doctor for the safe zone, Woodbury. Stevens held his own clinic where the surviving townspeople could go to. But after Brian Blake took control of Woodbury, Stevens would be forced took clean and patch up numerous of his leader's victims, causing growing tensions to appear between the two due to the Governor's violent ways.

Appearance

Stevens is an older Caucasian man somewhere in his early 50s. He has receding grey hair that slicks to the back of his head in the style of a short mullet. He usually has a stern expression with multiple wrinkles around his chin, mouth, and forehead, making him regularly appear as a serious man.

He wears a blue button up shirt with a long white doctor’s jacket over it, along with grey pants. Stevens wears a pair of rimless glasses that are placed slightly under his eyes, giving him a scholarly look.

Personality

Dr. Stevens portrayed himself as a rational and intelligent man that cared for the people around him. Having not lost his morals despite constantly being confronted with evil thanks to the Governor forcing him to take care of his victims, due to Stevens being the only real doctor in Woodbury. Stevens is shown to not be much of a fighter, rather wanting to use his words and brains during confrontation, giving him a rational presence. Likewise, Stevens is certainly not a coward, as he isn’t afraid to voice his convictions, directly scorning the Governor and frequently getting into arguments with him. This would eventually make Stevens to try and escape Woodbury with a few of his allies, but with conflicted feelings as he knows that the innocent people within Woodbury won’t have a doctor around, which further shows Stevens’ caring nature.

During his final moments, Stevens accepted his death without fear. Calming down his apprentice Alice and even gives a logical explanation with what will happen to him, furthermore, portraying how rational Stevens’ mindset was even when he died.

Rise of the Governor

Stevens is one of the many people gathered in the town hall where Major Gene Gavin tries to proclaim himself as the definitive leader of Woodbury. Gene states that they have to do something about the barricades considering the rising number of walkers, claiming that the townspeople are going to pull their weight around more and that Gene will enforce a new set of rules. Stevens says that they are already doing their best and asks what he wants of them. But Gavin angrily shouts that he wants their obedience, making Stevens quietly shake his head without responding. Gavin continues to angrily assert his dominance until a man named Detroit decides to simply walk away out of the room, not wanting to be controlled by Gavin's tyranny. It eventually results in Detroit getting shot and killed by Gavin. Which is later confirmed by Stevens who feels no pulse on Detroit's body.
