Frobisher, also known as Avan Tarklu, is the deuteragonist of the Sixth Doctor era Doctor Who Magazine comics. He is a middle aged shapeshifter Private Detective who joins the Sixth Doctor on his adventures, taking on the appearance of a penguin as his main form.
Frobisher is voiced by Robert Jezek in Big Finish's audio plays.
Trivia
- His name as a detective "Avan Tarklu" is a pun on the phrase "Haven't a clue", as a reference to his bad luck.
- Frobisher's departure story was with in the Seventh Doctor's first comic, as the magazine prioritised their own continuity over the TV run.
- This has led to several later stories implying that much like later companions, Frobisher would have several batches of adventures with the Doctor before finally settling down.
