Grant Gordon

Grant Gordon served as the deuteragonist of the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas special "The Return of Doctor Mysterio".

He was a man who gained "superpowers" and went under the alias of The Ghost. Grant gained his powers by accident as a child, due to mistaking the Hazandra gem for medicine. For 20 years he kept the promise to not use his powers, until the Doctor could return.

Eight years after defeating Harmony Shoal, the Doctor returned and took Grant and his family on as companions in an adventure to find the sisters to the crystal inside Grant.

Biography

Once upon Christmas Eve 1992 in New York City, the Twelfth Doctor got himself into a pickle while trying to correct some of the time disturbances affecting the city, and found help in young Grant Gordon. A subsequent misunderstanding involving a mystical gem resulted in the comic book-loving boy being granted the thing he seemed to want most in the world — superpowers.

Twenty-four years later, the Doctor and old acquaintance/new companion Nardole are back in N.Y.C. They're investigating Harmony Shoal, a seemingly benevolent corporation actually masterminded (so to speak) by sentient, alien brains that are seeking human host bodies. It turns out that they aren't the only ones suspicious of the company: so is Lucy Fletcher, an investigative journalist. And the Doctor isn't the only extraordinary being on the side of good in this situation — it turns out that Grant Gordon has decided (heedless of the Doctor's orders never to do so) to use his amazing abilities in public as the mysterious masked vigilante, The Ghost. These two heroes will ultimately have to work together not only to save the planet, but also to come to terms with their responsibilities to themselves and those close to them.

Superpowers

Ingestion of the Hazandra, combined with his love of comic books, gave Grant numerous superpowers. He was capable of flight and levitation, able to travel through the air at high speeds, including the vacuum of space. He also had superhuman strength, and was able to stop the Shoal spaceship from crashing into New York City with just his non-dominant right hand.

Trivia

  • Grant chose his hero name after the gem. Which the Doctor tols him was called the Ghost of Dreams and Wishes.
  • Its worth noting that Grant didn't have a child with Lucy even after eight years. It's possible he couldn't due to fearing harming Lucy if they tried to concieve; he had super strength after all.
  • Puberty had Grant suffering as his x-ray vision wouldn't turn off; hormones and beginning to find girls attractive caused the haywire. It was horrible as Grant saw EVERYONE naked, so he avoided looking at people until he got it under control.
