Hank Marlow is a major protagonist in the 2017 action adventure film Kong: Skull Island, the second installment in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise.
He is a U.S. Army Air Forces lieutenant of the 45th Pursuit Squadron who was stranded for nearly 29 years on Skull Island since World War II. Marlow knows everything about the creatures of the island and is also a close friend of Kong, a Japanese pilot and a group of Iwi natives.
He is portrayed by John C. Reilly, who also played Wreck-It Ralph in Disney's film of the same name, Dale Doback in Step Brothers, Rhomann Dey in Guardians of the Galaxy, Eddie Noodleman in Sing and 5 in 9. Will Brittain also played his younger self.
Biography
Kong: Skull Island
Hank Marlow acted as a Lieutenant during the events of World War II, before being stranded on Skull Island. He crashed on the island with a Japanese pilot named Gunpei Ikari, who still continued to fight until Ikari almost killed Hank, but then a gigantic gorilla known as Kong showed up and scared off Ikari. Hank spend the next course of 30 years stranded on Skull Island, during the time he began living with the people on, the Iwis, who would tell him about how Kong as considered to a god to them and the last of his kind, who were slaughtered by a race of subterranean reptile creatures, that he would dub "Skullcrawlers" and the only thing keeping from destroying all life on the island, and he even became friend with Ikari, until he was killed by one of the Skullcrawlers.
He then encountered James Conrad and his band of travelers during their expedition to the lost island, explaining who Kong is, while also speaking about the "devils" who lived below, also known as the Skullcrawlers. He explains to them the reason why Kong attacked them because when they dropped bombs on Skull Island they woke up some of the Skullcrawlers, and tells them about the largest of the Skullcrawlers known as the Big One, who killed Kong’s whole species.
Upon leaving Skull Island, Marlow (now clean-shaven and wearing a new military uniform) located his wife and son in Chicago. Upon knocking on the door, he was greeted by the sight of his son, now a grown man. Initially, he was confused at Marlow's presence, until his mother came along and, shocked at the sight of Marlow, slowly and tearfully embraced him; afterwards, his son learned that Marlow was his dad, and gladly shook his hand while holding back tears of joy. Marlow was last seen enjoying a hot dog, chips, and a bottle of cold beer while watching a Cubs baseball game.
Personality
Marlow initially came off as a lonely, somewhat paranoid man. This is understandable, as the only human contact he had for almost 30 years was the typically silent and stoic Iwi tribe. However, upon meeting James Conrad's group, he slowly unwinds and begins to bond with the soldiers over their shared martial careers. Having survived on Skull Island for decades, he has accumulated vast amounts of knowledge on the flora and fauna that inhabit the island. He seemed to have greatly respected the natural order of the island, as he was vehemently opposed to Preston Packard's quest to kill Kong.

Powers & Abilities
- Multilingualism: In addition to speaking English, Marlow can speak Japanese and can communicate in the silent manner the Iwi do.
- Swordsmanship: Marlow is very skilled with a sword, as such in particular using Gunpei's katana in combat.
Trivia
- Marlow's jacket also contains a "Lizard Company" patch, echoing the "King Kong Company" patch worn by Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver.
