Ma Liang

Ma Liang (Chinese: 馬良) is a supporting character in the 14th-century Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by the late Luo Guanzhong, and its multiple adaptations. He is a vassal of Shu and the older brother of Ma Su.

History

Ma Liang was born in Xiangyang. He had four brothers and they were very famous in Jing Province. Yi Ji recommended Ma Liang to Liu Bei. Ma Liang was joined his service. However, he brought a letter to Zhuge Liang from Liu Bei.

But later on, he warned Guan Yu about Lu Su's ability. He paid attention to Guan Yu's campaign in Fan Castle, and he was treated by Hua Tuo. Then Guan Yu sent him and Yi Ji to ask Liu Bei for help. After Guan Yu's death, he tried to persuade Liu Bei to attack Wu forces and warned him of Lu Xun. Liu Bei took him to Zhuge Liang with his map to oppose Wu.

When Ma Liang returned to Liu Bei, he discovered the army had failed. He mentioned that he was going to die, and Ma Su is mourning for him.
