Prodigy (David Alleyne)

I know what The Beast knows about science. I know what Wolverine knows about where limbs snap. Even stuff I can't use, I know. I'm a black belt in psychic warfare. And there's the rest. Oh, the rest. I know how Emma Frost and Scott Summers like to kiss each other. I know how all major X-Men like to wipe themselves. I know lots of stuff.Prodigy.

Knowledge isn't power. It's an intrinsic good. It betters the world simply by existing, and it would've been criminal to lose this data. And if the choice is between being a criminal or being a super hero? Done. Super hero, dude. No competition. Ask me a harder question next time.Prodigy.

Biography

Early Life

David Alleyne was born in Chicago, Illinois to Christopher and Dorothy Alleyne, and is the brother to Kim Alleyne. While growing up in Hyde Park, David showed himself to be a bright kid, but the answers to any question came to him when his mutant powers activated. He soon realized he has the ability to telepathically absorb information from anyone, but decided to keep them a secret from his parents. Using his abilities in school, David managed to reach the point that he could take college courses and became acquainted with fellow mutant Xi'an Coy Manh.

Becoming Prodigy

When his mutant powers were outed by Purity, he was enrolled into the Xavier Institute and recruited by Danielle Moonstar into the New Mutants Training Squad. Given the code name "Prodigy", he was appointed as the team's new leader, but declined and allowed his teammate Wind Dancer lead the squad. However, she found herself limited with the leadership, and Prodigy agreed to act as the team's co-leader with her. He soon learned that though he can absorb anyone's skills or abilities, they couldn't retain the knowledge once a person left the area. Wanting to improve his usefulness for the team, Alleyne asked Emma Frost to remove his mental block, but she and Moonstar instead showed him a vision if his powers were to be enhanced. Fearing of what he would become, Prodigy decided to not have his mental block removed and distanced himself from the others.

Following the events of "M-Day", Prodigy lost his powers, and was asked to leave from the X-Mansion alongside any of student who lost their powers. He would return when other students were killed by the Purifiers, and he built the a cave to allow his teammates to continue their training. William Stryker later attacked the mansion, and David protected the Stepford Cuckoos before rallying the New X-Men in fighting against Nimrod. His skills proved useful in defeating Nimrod, and Cyclops offered him a place on the team and the institute despite not having his powers. The New X-Men would search for Magik, and were taken into limbo by Belasco, whom later interrogated and killed David. He was revived by Elixir, and then freed the Cuckoos as Belasco was defeated by Magik.

Afterward, David decided to leave after seeing Surge kiss Hellion, but the Stepford Cuckoos offered to restore the memories of those he absorbed, and he accepted. He then became a teacher for the New X-Men, and later protected the students when the Hulk attacked the Earth during "World War Hulk". Prodigy later moved to San Francisco to join the X-Men's new haven, and later helped the team move to Utopia to clean the island's water system. Following the X-Men battling the Avengers, Prodigy left the X-Men and became a hotline consultant for superhumans. He soon met Speed and joined the Young Avengers when Tommy was taken by an entity guising as Patriot, and started to develop feelings for his teammate Hulkling. However, he would give on his affections for Hulkling due to his relationship with Wiccan, and started dating Tommy.

At some point, David died and was resurrected on Krakoa, regaining his mutant powers but with no memory of what happened.
