Yunyun is a main character in the 2013 light novel series KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!, the deuteragonist of its 2014 spin-off series KonoSuba: An Explosion on this Wonderful World!, and a major character of its 2017 spin-off series KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! Extra Attention to that Wonderful Fool!. She also appears in the manga & anime adaptations of the series, including as the tritagonist of the 2019 anime film KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson. Outside of KonoSuba, Yunyun is a minor character in the 2019 anime series Isekai Quartet, a comedy crossover that featured characters from several properties of the "Isekai" genre.
Yunyun is the daughter of Hiropon, the chief of the Crimson Demon clan. Unlike her peers, Yunyun was a timid girl who lacked a flare for the dramatic. Because she was the only member of the Crimson Demon clan who was relatively normal, she was considered an oddity and struggled to make friends. Although more demure than the rest of her clan, Yunyun was still an exceptional mage who found a rival and best friend in her former classmate Megumin.
Yunyun is voiced by Aki Toyosaki in Japanese and by Kayli Mills in English. Toyosaki has also voiced Kazari Uiharu in A Certain Magical Index, Isuzu Sohma in Fruits Basket, Chiyuri Kurashima in Accel World, and Ristarte in Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious. Mills has also voiced Emilia in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, Alice Zuberg in Sword Art Online: Alicization, and Kasumi Nakasu in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club.
