Orientalisme

Orientalisme adalah istilah yang merujuk pada peniruan atau penggambaran unsur-unsur budaya Timur di Barat^[1] oleh para penulis, desainer, dan seniman.

Sejak abad ke-19, "orientalis" telah menjadi istilah tradisional untuk para ahli dalam bidang studi Oriental. Orientalisme lebih digunakan secara luas sebagai istilah yang merujuk pada karya-karya seniman Prancis pada abad ke-19, yang mengandung unsur-unsur yang didapat dari perjalanan mereka ke negara-negara di luar Eropa, khususnya Afrika Utara dan Asia Barat.
