Studied at the Royal College of Music, but did not at Kneller Hall. Bandmaster of the Corps of Commissionaires 1887—1889 and the London Military Band 1889—1891, then conducted opera in Johannesburg. Founded the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in 1893, where he devoted the rest of his career. Director of Music to the Corporation of Bournemouth. He composed dance music, marches and songs.
