- His surname, Masunaga, is a different reading for his nickname, Zouchou, which, in turn, is derived from 増長天 (read as "Zouchouten"), the Japanese pronunciation of Virūḍhaka, one of the Four Heavenly Kings and guardian of the south.
Interestingly, the Kanji character for "Mi," 南, in his forename, Akemi, means Zouchou, a further reference to Virūḍhaka.- When turned around, his dub name, Phoenix Southers, is derived from south phoenix, alluding to Zhuque, one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations, an allusion on his appearance.
