Her Evil Ranking

What Makes Her Heinous?

  • By the time she debuted in the series, it was estimated that she had already been responsible for the deaths of 10,000 people (most of which are incredibly graphic), which solidified her reputation as one of (if not the) most brutal and dangerous spirits to have ever existed.
  • Repeatedly claims that she only protects Shido so that she can kill and eat him.
  • Forces Shido to choose between having a spacequake destroy his city or her "City of Devouring Time" consuming his entire school.
  • Attempting to destroy Raizen High School with a spacequake, not so that she could use the students' time to further her goal of preventing the first spacequake, but so she could prove to Shido just how sadistic and irredeemable she was. Further proving that she isn't above killing others for her amusement.
  • Killing countless people during her 3-month stay in Tenguu City and stealing their lifespans.
  • Unlike Tohka who only attacks in self-defense and Yoshino who wouldn't even attack the AST when they were trying to kill her, Kurumi is the first spirit introduced willing to attack people for fun. not all of her killings are for the sake of gaining time to prevent the first spacequake and kill Westcott, Ellen, and Elliot and some are just so she could get a quick laugh out of ending the lives of others.
  • Despite having some comedic moments, she's still taken seriously in-universe even after her redemtion.
  • While villains like Isaac Ray Peram Westcott and Mio Takamiya did worse, they had more resources than Kurumi, while she utilizes what she has to commit deplorable acts on top of crimes for what she believes to be the greater good, allowing her to meet the series' high heinous standards.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?

  • As heinous as many of her actions are, she is very tragic , having grown up as a normal girl until she was attacked by a monster one day only to be saved by Mio Takamiya who convinced her to help her hunt down and kill Spirits like the one that attacked her only to trick her into becoming a Spirit herself. She later ended up unknowingly killing her best friend who was also a Spirit, and afterward, Mio told her she was the one bonding Sephira Crystals with humans to transform them into monsters and then have them killed for the Crystals to be slowly purified, an event that caused Kurumi to despise all Spirits and start trying to go back in time and prevent Spirits from ever being created.
  • Her serial killings were done to save the lives of millions, by killing Isaac Ray Peram Westcott, Ellen Mira Mathers, and Elliot Baldwin Woodman, three of the series' main antagonists who caused this genocidal event in the first place, as well as being responsible for multiple other heinous acts. Not to mention that if she succeeded, it would also retcon all the deaths she had caused previously.
  • She's perfectly willing to help Shido and the other Spirits if it helps her further her own needs, such as when she fought alongside Shido against Miku and DEM while searching for Nia and helped the other Spirits rescue Tohka from Isaac and Ellen. After considering it for a while, she eventually agreed to send Origami to the past to prevent the deaths of her parents using her chronokinetic powers. And in Volume 13, she puts her own life on the line for the sake of saving Shido.
  • In the manga, she officially redeems herself by allowing Shido to seal her powers so that he could stop Mio, and later attends college along with him, Origami, and the Yamai sisters.
