Luta Gemma (ルタ・ジェンマ) is a poet living in Zepik Village and a descendent of one of the Six Priests of Ys. He is a chronic sleepwalker, which repeatedly gets him in danger.

Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished: Omen
In most versions of Ys I, Adol Christin first meets Luta in a prison cell of Darm Tower. He explains that he sleepwalked into Darm Tower and was captured by the monsters. Both are then freed from the prison by Dogi.
Luta is later encountered again on Floor 11 of Darm Tower, where he is resting after having injured his leg. When Adol has found and read the fifth Book of Ys, Volume Gemma, Luta explains that he lost the book as a child. He gives Adol the Blue Amulet, the Gemma family heirloom mentioned in their Volume. This amulet is said to destroy the curses of the demons and is necessary for Adol to enter the final floor of Darm Tower.
In Ys I Eternal (as well as Ys I Complete and Chronicles which are based on it), Adol can optionally meet Luta even before entering Darm Tower. Luta's wife Iris, who lives in Zepik Village, explains that she's worried because Luta has disappeared again. Adol can then find Luta in Doctor Bludo's clinic in Barbado Port, where he just finished a checkup for his sleepwalking and intends to return to Zepik Village. After this he can be found in the fields northwest of Minea, where he is attacked by a monster. Adol defeats the monster and escorts Luta back to Zepik Village, where Iris is waiting for him.
