Nursing: The State of the Specialty

We hope this note finds you all well and safe.
It seems every day, we adapt to a new normal, as we attempt to make sense of
our ever-changing reality.
As an Editorial Board, we have decided to extend the call
for manuscripts for the special issue on Forensic Nursing: The State
of the Specialty until May 1, 2020. We recognize that during
the coronavirus crisis, writing is likely not high on anyone’s agenda, but for
those who are still interested in submitting, we felt a little extra time might
be helpful.
We are also very interested in forensic nurses’ responses
to COVID-19; how you are coping, challenges your patients and clients are
experiencing, and your messages of hope. We want to hear your stories.,
and look forward to sharing your contributions with our readership.
The World Health Organization has declared the year 2020, as the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. We are pleased to announce a call for authors for a special issue devoted to the current state of our specialty, and the evolving role of the forensic nurse globally. A special issue entitled “Forensic Nursing—The State of the Specialty” will be published in 2020.
We are currently seeking original articles, review papers, and case reports that speak to the role of forensic nursing and forensic nurses in 2020, with particular interest in papers that represent the diversity of the specialty, and the unique contributions forensic nurses make in the care of individuals, families, and communities. Researchers, clinicians, educators, and others whose work articulates the state of the specialty are invited to submit articles. All submissions must explicitly address the role of the forensic nurse in practice, education, research, or policy.
Potential topics could include (but are definitely not limited to):
• Original research on the impact of forensic nurses in improving outcomes in practice
• Descriptions of novel practice environments for forensic nurses
• Policy analyses relevant to forensic nursing practice
• Reports on the application or testing of theoretical frameworks in the specialty
• Historical overview of the forensic nursing specialty
• Evidence based project reports on innovations in professional role development
• Future roles, responsibilities, and learning needs
