Evidence Based Reports Cards (EBRC) are scoping and integrative reviews that provide current best evidence in all aspects of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care. The Editorial Board of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing invites Authors to submit EBRC Manuscripts addressing the following areas:
Wound Care- Which topical therapy is most effective in reducing hypergranulation?
- How can cellulitis be distinguished from dermatitis in order to promote antibiotic stewardship?
- Should patients with acute or chronic wounds be allowed to shower with the wound exposed?
- Does implementation of a WOC consult for all hospitalized patients with a low Braden score (or identified at risk for pressure injury development) impact hospital associated pressure injury rates?
- Are there any effective prevention or treatment options for chronic tissue injury (AKA “recliner butt”)?
Ostomy Care- Are individual or group pre-operative ostomy educational visits more effective in achieving positive post-operative outcomes (including patient satisfaction/adjustment, ostomy complications, length of stay, readmissions, etc.)?
- Does post-acute follow-up of patients with high output ileostomies reduce complications, including readmissions?
- Can the use of teach back improve patient understanding of care of a new ostomy?
Continence Care- Are hospital readmissions for exacerbation of congestive heart failure reduced by counseling patients on behavioral management of urinary symptoms related to their diuretics?
- Is the availability of external urinary collection devices within a hospital instrumental in reducing indwelling urinary catheter use?
- Which interventions are effective in maintaining continence in individuals residing in assisted living or long term care facilities?
Professional Practice Issues - Is a particularly alternative or complementary therapy effective in addressing a condition related to wound, ostomy, continence or foot care?
- What is the impact of motivational interviewing on health behavior change related to a specific behavior beneficial for patients with wound, ostomy or continence issues?
- What is the recommended staffing ratio of WOC Nurses based on hospital size?
