Assyria (litteris cuneiformibus Neo-Assyriacis , romanizatis māt Aššur ; Syriacice ܐܬܘܪ ʾāthor ; Graece Ασσυρία) fuit civilizatio antiqua in Mesopotamia inter aetatem aeneam et ferream, quae urbs-civitas magni momenti apud ripas Tigris orta primum floruit, regionibus in primis terris Assyriorum interdum a saeculo vicensimo uno ad saeculum quartum decimum a.C.n. moderans, tum civitas territorialis, et ad ultimum imperium a saeculo quarto decimo ad saeculum septimum a.C.n., cum anno 609 a.C.n. finem haberet, ab Imperio Babylonio victa. Eius nomen ex Assyria principali urbe appellatur.
